In love with two men
Which one is which?
Such is the nightmare of loving an alcoholic.

Mild, meek, and humble
Is the one I love.
Loud, boastful, sloppy and violent is the switch.

For so long I've tried to help you help yourself,
But no matter what I say or do, be it good or bad,
You sit it all on the shelf.

Hurt and anger burns within me!
Not to mention the frustration and confusion,
Can't you see? I want to help you, so help me; agree.

You say I become stronger without you.
You know what? I do!
But no matter how strong I get I still miss and need you!

So many broken promises, so many excuses!
I took all the blame, not anymore!
Come hell or high water I'll make it to shore.

What happened to your dignity and self-respect?
You think you don't need any cause you're a man…Got news for you!
Love and these qualities go hand in hand.

So go ahead, push me around and yell in my face!
I'll do what I want to do!
You know what? I feel sorry for you!

In a drunken stupor you break down and in my arms you cry.
As I cradle and comfort you I whisper
"You can stop if you try."

An alternative I gave you one day; me or the bottle, you choose.
I may as well have talked to myself
Cause the next day you were back on the booze.

Your choice was plain to see,
Yes, you love the bottle
More than me.

So when I told you last night
You can have someone else with my blessing
I really meant it
Cause I know what I'd be missing.
