This is a very old pattern called "Jack's Chain" with the nine patch blocks. I've wanted to make this quilt ever since I started quilting but so far I haven't make it. It is called "Wedding Tile" with the striped blocks, and you can also make it with plain "scrappy" blocks. The real adventurous could put in a foundation pieced crazy quilt type block or a foundation pieced block for the square.
Whatever your choice, to sew it all together, first sew rings where the colored area's are and then make the part I have in white separate. You will then have to set it all in. It would take some skill and knowledge of set-in seams. However, it would be a great "take along" project to sew the set-in portions by hand, but if you know how to sew set-in seams on the sewing machine, you can certainly do it by machine.
I will put up some instructions for sewing set-in seams on the machine soon. I'll link it here when I get it all up.
I hope you enjoyed this lesson and this quilt.
