    Here at the 81st Training Wing we are very proud of the heritage we inherited from the 81st Fighter Wing. However, we don't have the full story on some things. One thing we don't know much about is the Ceremonial Sword we inherited along with the 81st nomenclature. Do you know of anyone who may have the word on this particular artifact? Any help you can give us in this matter will be greatly appreciated. Also looking for the Heraldry of the Pilot's Scarf.

    The Bentwaters Aviation Society, are a small group of friends who are working on a museum project at Bentwaters. The Bentwaters Cold War Museum is to be based in the Wing Operations Centre (Command Bunker). Some rooms will be restored to their original condition, whilst other rooms will be used to show the history of RAF Bentwaters, the units that have been based there, and information on the 'twin' base at RAF Woodbridge. If you would like to help, in any way, we would like to hear from you. We are looking for all types of information, whether this is pictures, memorabilia, stories of your time at RAF Bentwaters/Woodbridge, or any help that you may be able to offer.     Looking for Dependent of USAF Serviceman.
    Looking for a Dependent married to a USAF serviceman that went stateside about 1964. Her name is Jaqueline Sharpe. Jacky went to Luther Road Primary School 1951-1955, and Christchurch School for Girls, 1955-1959. No one in Ipswich, not even her best friend throughout all of that time, has heard from Jacky since she went stateside. Have an unconfirmed report from another Ipswich girl in USA that Jacky's husband was killed in a chopper rescue mission that went wrong. I have no idea where or when this might have taken place, or whether he was the pilot. Can you shed any light on Jacqueline Sharpe? Contact: Roland Collins

     I often see your site mentioned on the Evening Star Forum and I am aware you are in touch with many people that have served in the UK. I am retired and crippled, but I like to run my BMW when I can afford gas for it. I have come up with this idea to help me get out more and do a service to others at the same time. I will travel around and take pictures of places and people if that person agrees, (I can find anyone if you send me enough details), and you pay my gas via PayPal ($7+ per gallon currently, and I only get 15mpg). Here is an example of how I send my pics by e-mail. You print them off yourself or save them to disc.   • RAF Bawdsey...I run the contact site for RAF Bawdsey and RAF Woodbridge were our nearest neighbours but it was a USAF base in my days (early Fifties). I do get emails from USAF guys who fondly remember some of our WRAF - some even married them.

    This is an unusual and distinctive car which I would like to trace the history of for posterity. Perhaps not a usual request you get but I hope you can help! The car is an old pre-war BMW 327 cabriolet model - left hand drive - (UK registration TLK 30). It was first registered in Germany in 1939 when it was black with a red interior. By 1962 it was in the UK, owned and restored by a USAF Airman (possibly an NCO) called 'Chuck' Bowland. The person told me his name was spelt this way, but I guess could have been Boland, Bowlan, Boland, Bolen etc. To date I can find no record of this person.
    The car and Chuck had connections with H H Cranes Garages run by Jack Crane in the villages of Hollesley and Bawdsey at that time, very close to RAF Woodbridge and RAF Bentwaters. Chuck had an Alsatian Dog called Butch which I am told he left with Jack when he left the UK sometime probably between 1960 and 1962. It's probable that he visited Germany regularly as I think he brought back spare parts from time to time for the garage. I am also told he probably originally imported the car from Germany, perhaps along with others.
    In the UK the car was a distinctive bright red colour, with a white folding vinyl roof, and a black interior. I attach two images of the car taken by the next owner around 1963 for reference. It's possible that someone at RAF Woodbridge or RAF Bentwaters knew the car even if they didn't know Chuck.
    Can anyone help me find out about Chuck or recall this car around the Twin bases in the late 1950's or 1960's? H H Cranes had a few other cars like this at that time so we are looking specifically for a red one with a white roof.
    Any help so I can find out more about Chuck and my car would be very gratefully received.
