Here's a mix of different type mechanisms and nationalities. The first is a French Laguiole auto that is a button open, button close., Then a couple of horn swing guard Italian knives from the 60's have a lock back mechanism. The stag Mikov is made in the Czech Republic, and is a leverlock. The Jaeger Bros knives were made in Wisconsin in the 1920's and are a backspring lock and release. Several of these surfaced in the late 70's to early eighties. ( I should check my Newsletter back issues!) One version is that several of these were assembled from old parts, and the other version is that they were fakes. The original knives were slightly different, and were never scaled in stag. It is hard to believe that somebody would go to the trouble to fake them and then sell them for $125 -$150 as rare antiques, but who knows. This knife is one of these. The feature photo is of a few more from the late 50's to possibly early 60's. These are coilspring knives made in Maniago for the Robert Klaas Co. (Kissing Cranes) Notice the lockback in the middle of the knife. I mention this because in the past few years I have seen some with the lock tab at the rear, and I believe these are fake, converted 60's lockbacks, especially if you see one with a dagger grind blade. |
