Hyarotis adrastus praba |
This Skipper is not often seen in Singapore and has been observed only on a few occasions on the fringes of the nature reserves to the north of the Central Catchment area. I have seen the species on one occasion, feeding on bird droppings on the forest floor. This species, Hyarotis adrastus praba, has an irregular white fascia on the underside of the hindwing. There are 3 apical spots on the forewings. A distinct feature of this genus, the antennal club bears a white patch just before the elbow of the apicus. Like most Hesperiidae, this species is a fast flyer and zips around the undergrowth rapidly. When it stops to rest or bask in sunlit spots, it closes its wings in an upright position. |
