This butterfly is another one of the
Snow Flats that is encountered in Singapore. This species, Tagiades
calligana, may be distinguished from the other Tagiades species
in that the upperside of its hindwing does not have a black marginal spot
at the end of vein 1b.
Like its relatives in the Tagiades
genus, this species is also a sun-loving butterfly and flies so rapidly
that only the whitened area of the hindwings may betray their presence.
This photograph shows the characteristic flat open-winged posture which
is usual amongst the Tagiades species. |
