All
the species of the Zela genus are described to be very rare and confined
to lowland forest. The species photographed here, is thought to be
Zela storeyi. Only a dissection of the genitalia will determine
with more certainty the identity of the species. The species is a
drab brown with a forewing cell spot in space 3. The upperside hindwing
has a conspicuous tuft of hairs from near the wing base. The wingtips
on the underside appear to be lightened.
The species also possesses a
deep yellow tornal cilia. In live specimens, the eyes are red.
The antenna are whitened at the tips. The butterfly flies with a
"hopping" flight and rests with its wings folded up or half open as in
the photos. |
