This
Hesperiid is one of the species which was not recorded in Singapore by
the earlier researchers. This species, Tapena thwaitesi bornea,
is therefore a new record for Singapore. It flies rapidly and settles
in the usual "Snow Flat" type of posture, with its wings fully outspread.
The upperside is dark brown, obscurely marked with dark blotchy spots.
The forewings feature two to three small white hyaline subapical spots.
In this photo, the butterfly
was flying around and landing on scraps of white tissue paper, probably
feeding on the moisture on the paper. |
