This
butterfly is one of three species of the genus Anthene which is
found in Malaysia and Singapore. Only Anthene lycaenina miya,
together with its close relative, Ciliate
Blue (Anthene emolus goberus), are found in Singapore.
However, Anthene lycaenina miya is less often encountered.
I have observed males of this species feeding on moist spots along muddy
tracks in the Mandai area of Singapore.
The hindwing possesses a few
very fine tails which are an extension of the cilia. The uppersides
of the male are silvery blue. The distinguishing feature of this
species is the single black spot on the underside of the hindwings near
the costal area. |
