Hulk 229-230 Review
We left last issue with Moonstone unconscious and reverted back to her civies. This has further confused the Hulk as he thought he had captured the "metal lady". Samson manages to talk the Hulk down and gets him to release Karla.
Always trying to be one step ahead, Karla is already scheming as to how she can get out of this one. With all attention on the Hulk Karla lets a light blast rip into some gas pipes. Hulk then heroically pushes Samson and Karla out of harms way. After getting out of the pile of rubble Hulk is ready to rumble, then amazingly Samson is able to talk him down...it appears that Samson's work with the Hulk is paying off. Karla, off on the wings unseen, zaps Hulk with a lazer in the back... Hulk  then tosses Samson around like a rag doll, destroys a bunch of army equiptment and all this being broadcast live! Then things get interesting...
Moonstone now makes her appearance and  starts to battle the Hulk, this puts her in a good light as the media broadcasts it. We see her going toe to toe with the Hulk and holding her own. Amazing when you consider who in the Marvel universe the Hulk has taken down. Samson arrives back from his "flight" and tries to contain the Hulk, Moonstone continues to exasperate the Hulk, then flies off since there was no need to continue her plan...she then thinks to herself "I sure have come a far way from the time i was and assistant to Dr. Faustus..."
We then get some flashbacks to Captain America 192, her orgin, and how she manipulated her way in to see the captured original Moonstone, and get him to reject the Moonstone which she gladly accepted. Meanwhile the Hulk is beating the stuffing out of Samson and Genral Ross enters the picture

determined to take the Hulk out. Moonstone is discovered by the Hulk and they exchange blows yet again, this time the Hulk gets in a few that do rock her, but overall she is taking it to him, but he just keeps coming. finally it starts to wear her down and she reverts into Karla Sofen, much to Genral Ross' surprise and the Hulk's. Then She uses her strongest power, the power of her mind and totally twists two minds around...
She starts switching from Karla to Moonstone until General Ross can't absorb it all and he finally has a mental breakdown...some thing that had been building for a long time.Just as the Hulk is about to grab Karla, Samson comes on the scene and thinks it is the Hulk that has hurt General Ross. The Hulk then jumps away as Samson is left to care for  General Ross. End of issue 229.
BONUS SECTION Hulk Issue 30 Karla panels!
Hulk 230 only has these 4 panels that relate to Moonstone, Hulk 232 has a name reference only - that SHIELD has connected that Moonstone and Karla are one and the same. In Issue 230 we see Samson sorrowful over the General's state and that he never saw the breakdown coming. He then finds out about a meeting with some men from Washington who are concerned with how things are being run at Gamma Base...Samson goes off to deal with that and leaves Karla in charge of General Ross' treatment...something she is obviously happy about!

Great start for a great character, unfortunately she then dropped out of the picture. My hope is that with Samson's connection with Karla that down the road this might be explored more. After everything she had done to him and his friends, and yet Samson's heart to want to help and see people reform and get better, how would he react to Moonstone's involvement with the Thunderbolts and her being on the side of angels this time? Great story idea...I hope someone at Marvel picks it up...Maybe a Moonstone Limited series???
