| Hulk 449 Review |
| This is the first appearance of the Thunderbolts. Personally, I was not too impressed with the art in this issue, the Hulk and the regulars in that book looked okay,but the Tbolts didn't look too good. I am also glad I never read this book before Tbolts 1 came out... it would have ruined it for me. There are TONS of clues and references that really tip off who Meteorite really is. It is worth having in your collection though. |
| The scene opens with Hulk and Janis getting shot out of the air with a missile. Mach 1 makes a daring rescue of the dansel in distress, only to have her turn on him and blast him with her staff. The Hulk lands in the middle of a rodeo where the rest of the Tbolts approach him. The Hulk then raises his arms in surrender and stays there quietly. |
| Songbird encases him in a sound cage while Atlas confers with Meteorite "Whattayou think, Meteorite...You're the one who's got a history with him..." Subtle clue... |
| Zemo..err Citizen V arrives, with Mach 1 back in the picture, and surveys the scene. He too is puzzled with the Hulk's behavior. Then the Green Goliath speaks..." I was waiting for all of you to be in one place...He breaks the sonic cage and the battle begins! |
| Janis joins the fray. The Tbolts then attack her also. This gets the green guy a LITTLE ticked and things get taken up a notch. |
| During the battle the Hulk recognises Meteorites voice...Another clue dropped. |
| The Hulk then busts open a Dam and the Tbolts are forced to protect the innocents around them. |
| The Tbolts all join together showcasing some of their unique powers in the rescue of the townsfolks. Meanwhile Hulk and Janis leave the scene... |
| Meteorite expresses her disappointment in the Hulk's escape. After these 3 "clues" it is quite obvious to most who she must be. Meteorite was a key figure in the story then and continues to be. Writers know a good thing when they see it. To close the issue the Hulk then mysteriously collapses...but who cares..everyone is waiting then for Tbolts 1 to come out! |
