Tbolt issue 53 review
Written by Fabian N and Drawings by Zircher and Vey inks. Published June 20 2001.

I was in a big mood today so the pics are bigger so grab a coffee and wait for them to load and have a good read!!

We start with Chuck musing over his life and a guest narrator is there looking to light his fuse. Chuck's mind is wandering while in school thinking of Hallie and life etc, but he is able to pull an answer out of the air for his teacher. There is racial tension in the school and the 89ers are mouthing off. Chuck considers slamming them. He is very distant and his friends that know of his alter ego are concerned for him. We see Hallie training ,learning to walk, and fall so that "she can stand on her own again"...
Chuck is wandering around and sees those lovely biggots\racists wailing on a poor guy. chuck loses it and turns into Charcoal and threatens to kill them if they don't back off...bullying the bullies... The scene changes to Cap watching Hallie train and musing over HIS lack of life, feeling so over extended and not motivated. Off on a side panel Sharon Carter and GW Bridge are talking about HS1 the stupid pod dude, Fixer over hears this...and Orge overhears his over hearing...
Here it is a pic of HS 1...WEE HURRAY, wet your pants in glee...I CAN'T WAIT for Fabain to reveal this next issue so we can all get on with life, I am so sick of Message Board speculations and stuff(applause to Britton for figuring it out...and blast you for not sharing it so the Boards could move on to something else :)   )
We see Orge has good judgement in that when fixer starts to look into the HS mystery he is concerned that the "arrogant son of  a ..." is getting his newly alive nose into things...

Chucks friends track him down(at the same cafe Hallie was shot) to try to befriend him. chuck asks if anyone saw him change...no one did...except our guest narrator who makes himself known...

Calvin Burlingame

"daddy charcoal"
Chuck is less than thrilled to see the old man. Then we change scenes and get off earth onto the moon where we see it being reshaped...by gravitron(gravy train)

and since this is the only panel we see Moonstone I say make it big, this site IS supposed to be about her...

She then challenges gravy to work on focus of scope "you can shove mountains aside...but can you cradle a peeble" Life Sentences basically had Moonie checking clint in prison and then accpeting gravys offer to help him in coming up with a plan to rule the world, and gravy offered her half. There was some flirting and we are left to wonder if it is just a mechanism of hers or is she falling. My 2 cents is it is a ploy, she went to the prison looking to see a glint of hope, of inspiration in Hawkeye's eyes to inspire her, there is still feeling there for our purple archer...and speaking of which let's check in on him...
In  Life Sentences Hawkeye was fighting for his life against all the other prisoners, then Mentallo made a deal with Clint, to protect Clint if he would help Mentallo escape...Hawkeye agreed, but there is more to this than meets the eye, remember Dum Dum Dugan approached Hawkeye also... I see another Fabian sub-plot warning up here!!!
Back to chuckaroni, he is off on a nice family drive with dear old dad. We find out there are roughly 10 % of similar Chuck experiments that survived and that dad wants chuck to help him steal some chemicals for the Imperial army. Chuck tells dad to get lost, and suddenly(can we say set up) the Imperial Army shocktroopers are there. Dad is confident chuck will wipe them up, chuck is too, and wham bam. Dad takes advantage of this distraction to begin stealing the info on the chemical. But Cap and the Redeemers have been notified of the disturbance and are on the way. Meanwhile during the fight chucks dad gets hit by a ?stray blast and is hanging over a very cold vat of chemicals. He calls for chuck to save him, when he tries he is hurt by the chemical... now a choice, save dad, do what a hero would do, or take a chance the chemical could permentantly hurt his charcoal form...
Chuck decides to let the old man drop, we see his dad's hand partialy sticking out of the cold chemical, frozen solid. I think we can safely say calvin is dead, if the chemical hurt chuck...this is one character that should stay dead, but who knows!!!. Cap and the Redeemers arrive. Chuck gets a dig in at Cap about the Secret Empire originally being a Cap problem and that Cap needs to get on the ball. Cap is silent, but clearly not impressed.
Despite only one panel with Moonstone I was pleased with this issue. Zircher does an AWESOME Charcoal, Jolt and Beetle. Gravy looks impressive, I still am getting used to the new Moonstone, but I am glad Pat is on board. I was also pleased with the story, it was nice to see one of the tbolts...NOT redeemers as the focus, and hallie getting some "screen time" it was almost like a Tbolt book again.

Once the "25 year old mystery of the pod" is out that will be good. There is much LESS to follow plot line in these recent issues since 50, it is taking some getting used to, even the new threads are small and slowly building, but there is interest in them, I think things are back on an upswing for Tbolts after a few slow issues.
