J-Dub Tbolt issue 35 review
A sad start. We see the Tbolts at Jolts funeral, and they’re all going
through some sort of anguish. It’s quite touching, actually. What’s odd
is that we don’t see Charcoal doing any soul-searching.
We see robot
Techno doing some pondering, but not Charcoal. Does that mean he’s
repressing it? It could. Anyway, it looks like the Tbolts sure can pick
their towns. Their current residing place has a nosy reporter who can
recognize Hawkeye without his costume and guess the identity of Jolt.
Not good for the Bolts. Hawkeye is not letting his bum wrist stop him from being an expert
archer, as he’s now toting a wrist crossbow. I like this look, and I
think he should stick with it! Moonstone gets Hallie's diary (which
Techno had sent to her) and shares it with the team (I sense more
grieving ahead).
We then get to see a female Citizen V in action. Wow!
She’s definitely worthy of the CV mantle! However, if she doesn’t whack
someone, she’s gonna be stripped of her title! Whatever will happen???
Now we see Clint watching Hallies diary with Moonstone, and it’s more
grieving and closure. That’s seems to be the speciality for the day, as
we see Songbird, Charcoal, Atlas and even Techno indulging in some
emotion. Atlas goes out for a beer, and we see Mankiller, manning a
bar.
Then we get a view down the barrel of a gun straight at ‘ol Josten, but
today isn't the day. Like our mystery assassin says, “A place for
everything and everything in its place” A-wooga-a-wooga! Redundancy and
Bad Cillian Dialogue alert! Call out the rabid editors!
I’d been wondering all through the issue “Where’s the Beetle? Where
where where?” I now see. He’s getting bullied around by Val Cooper, her
own bad self. Considering how she used to ride herd on X-Factor, that’s
nothing to be ashamed of. Beetle takes the next flight out to Canada
(and for one glorious moment I envisioned a “Tbolts/Alpha Flight”
crossover event! *Knock, knock, knock* Who is it? Oh, hi reality. I
thought you’d be dropping by soon) Back to the plot. . .
Now at Justin Hammers secret villain hideaway, we see the hordes of
evil
assembled. (Quite a horde, too. Well, as they say: Three’s company,
four’s a horde) Beetle shows up and starts beating the stuffing out of
the aforementioned horde. That done, he offers his service to
Mr.Hammer.
He’s about to unmask, too, when the TBolts come crashing in on them.
It’s a fight scene!
To end the issue, Fabe-o dangles a little something out there for all
you Alpha Flight fans, namely hard air references and the name Hume.
Errrg, that little fart!
General overview:
This was my very first taste of Tbolts, and I liked it. I had no idea
who anyone was, or how they got there, but I liked it. I was hooked. I
liked the Beetle/Horde fight scene, and I liked the soul searching with
all the Tbolts. I liked CV, too. I liked it all. A great read! I got it
free, too. That’s nice!
