J-Dub Tbolt issue 41 review

First page and we’re already seeing an awesome group pic of the V-Battalion.

Sometimes, you can just tell it’s going to be an awesome issue.

Then we see an awesome battle pic (a 2-page-spread, to be precise) and the issue just keeps going from there, never giving anyone time to catch their breath. Why are they fighting? Because the Tbolts are trespassing on V-B turf. Some neat-o dialogue between the V-B and Tbolts(a verbal battle just as intense as the physical one), and some more awesome fighting.

It looks a little bad for the Bolts, considering Atlas is MIA and Karla is CHG (Chucking Her Guts). Very next page, here comes Atlas, looking kinda peeved about Dallas. Then it’s pretty much an all around slugfest, until Moonstone has some inner conflict (with her Kree heritage) and decides to turn everyone intangible, then to leave.

Sandman leaves, too.(Moonstonelover interjects: BUT, they did NOT leave together! She's Hawkeyes gal! not some sandbox's!)

Erik’s still pretty mad, but he agrees to go after Sandman first, then rough up Destroyer later. Heroic choice, Dawgster. (If you don’t get the joke, read my review of Tbolts #5)

So, without further ado, the V-b and the Tbolts are off to catch Sandman.

It looks like it’s time to add another chapter in a few of the ongoing sub-plots, so we see Dallas in her cell (nude. Whoo-hoo!), planning her escape, two people talking about the whole Roxxon/Scourge conspiracy-thingie, and Techno, Mankiller, and Scourge in a bar. Scourge promises the the “Arrogance is next” Then it’s back to Symkaria. . .

Oh joy, rapture! The Wild Pack! Hoo-hah! Yes, I know, they’re getting beat up by Sandy, but still! I love seeing Batlestar, too. He’s a cool guy.

While Sandman is attempting to get info out of ‘ol Lemar, Too-to-to-tooo! Here come the Calvary! A quick sonic oven later, and Sandman’s glass....again! (you ever notice how Sandy’s always getting turned into glass? It always happens).

Mach-1 decides to go scanning for Moonstone, but comes up empty. He calls Ogre (really Techno) and tries to get some help. In the shadows behind Techno we see Scourge (his costume is the absolute coolest I’ve probably ever seen in Marvel), grinning. That’s not good. And Dallas escapes, nude, but manages to find her clothes.

General overview.
SWEET! I love the V-B! I also get to see Sandman (whom I like a lot), Silver Sable and her Wild Pack. I’m surprised to find out that Sandy doesn’t like Sable. Wonder what brought that on? Then, just for the Fanboys, we see Dallas, nude. Kinda makes the 2.25$ seem paltry, in comparison. I like the Sandman/ V.B.-Tbolts battle, it shows some smarts on Hawkeyes part.

J-Dub Tbolt issue 44 review

Issue starts off good. I think it’s awesome that the Avengers have to ask their former foes for help. I like the way all the Avengers are drawn, too. They should drop their current artist ad pick up this guy! He knows how to draw Widow and Scarlet Witch!

It seems that Count Nearia is attempting to take over the world, yet again. And this time he has an actual chance, too. Well, with the Tbolts and Avengers against him, he might not.

Anyway, it appears the he has taken control of Atlas and Wonder Man, thereby gaining two rather competent foot soldiers. The Tbolts managed to capture some scientist, so they think they might be able to devise a counter plan, consisting of something other than a large fight (bummer!). Which goes against Avengers Protocol.

Moonstone is trying to get Kree info from 4-Freedoms-Plaza, but gets caught by Mr.and Mrs. Fantastic. She manages to escape, yelling some ancient Kree at them. Mr.F deduces that she’s probably looking for info on her origin. Smart man, that Mr.F. Then we see some more people talking about the Roxxon/Scourge thing, and it appears Fabe-o is building like heck for the 50th issue.

Back at Avengers mansion, all the smart people are in the lab, making things. We discover some info about this plan the good guys have, it involves a really big gun! Whoo-hoo! I guess that’s not deviating all that much from the Avengers Protocol, after all. A cool scene with the Avengers and Tbolts walking through the Avengers Hall ‘o Fame, and some neat dialogue. A veiled hint about possible new members by Jennifer. It’s also cool seeing Clint, ‘Tasha, and Cap just hanging out.

Techno and Scourge! ‘Nuff said! Okay, I lied.

I can’t resist flabbing my gums more. Sue me.(Moonstonelover interjects:I own this site, I ain't suing, so Go for it!!! ) We see some info about Scourge’s weapon storage system (Pym particles) and some snappy verbal fighting between the two. Then it’s time to get it on! I turn the page in anticipation. . .

And see Moonstone instead. Nude, so it’s not that bad. She’s still looking for Kree info. She should swing by http://www.comicboards.com You can find all sorts of info there. But she decides instead to fly to the moon. Some people!

The good guys are outside of Nefaria Castle, and they announce their presence with a few boulders. Out come Atlas and Wonder Man, and it’s time for a fight! The poor ionic folk are beaten solidly, but Wonder Man manages to knock the big gun I was talking about earlier out of Iron Mans hand.

Inside the castle, the intrusion team makes it’s way to deeper and deeper into the castle. Outside, the good guys manage to shoot Simon and Erik with that big gun, and they’re out of it.

Suddenly, the intrusion team is the extrusion team, as Nefaria blasts them through a few walls. We finally get to see what Nefarias weapon is, and it’s a really big bomb! Big guns and big bombs! What more could a guy want? Maybe a big gun that works? That’s right, Nefaria isn’t the least bit affected by the Ionic Lock (the official name for the big gun I mentioned earlier) Looks like a fight in the near future! Goody!

General overview: I like the Avengers / Tbolts interaction. I like the art, the story, the characters, and the dialogue. The plot moves along nicely, too. I can’t wait to see Techno/Scourge!

J-Dub Avengers issue 34 review

Group thrashing! Unfortunately, the thrashing seems to be happening to the Avengers and Tbolts.

One count, Nefaria by name, is trying to take over the world and the good guys just gotta stop him! Pity that Nefaria can whup all their butts, with his eyes closed. Big 2-page spread showing every superhero I can think of getting creamed, all at the same time no less, by Nefaria. Earths Mightiest Heroes, my tush. Okay, let's move on now.

There's some recap, some villain boasting (Fools! Simpletons! You cannot prevail against ME!) and the like. Wasp decides that they don't have to take down Neffie, they only have to destroy his means of world conquest, namely a big bomb. Neffie doesn't want this to happen, so he cuts a cliff in half, making an avalanche. Toward a town, no less. The good guys manage to stop the cliffslide, but Neffies’s not done yet. He launches a semi at Warbird, followed by many other autos. Then he sets fire to a gas main, giving the good guys plenty to distract them. Through it all, the good guys remember the real threat. Too that end. . .

Charcoal tries to make for the bomb, and gets blasted apart. Wanda throws all the Chaos Magic (tm) she has at him, but he manages to survive and take her out with the feedback. Warbird, Shulkie and Triathlon developed a plan, which was for the females to distract Neffie while Tri ran for the bomb.

He gets blasted, too. Iron Man asks if Neffie is running out of energy, and Goliath says in 3 weeks, yeah. I'm thinking “How long is this issue again?”

Suddenly, we see Madame Masque arrive with a REALLY big gun. Turns out she gave the Avengers a bum one last issue. She wants Neffie to kill the good guys, then she'll kill Neffie. Not a team player, that girl.

Atlas and Wonder Man (remember them?) Wake up in time to see the bomb blasting off into outer space. They decide to stop it. (good plan!) Atlas gets to fly! Woo-hoo! Songbird decides to trap Neffie in a wall of sound, but he breaks out. Then Vision come down and solidifies himself into Neffie. Neffie wins, with Vision down. Then it's all together now as everyone in that time zone starts to hammer Neffie.

Madame Masque is debating whether or not to help when a clone of hers (man, those clones show up everywhere) grabs the big gun and steps out to shoot Neffie. But. . .

Neffie blasts her dead. The real M.M. steps out and shoots him, though. And ta-da, Neffie starts leaking energy. So, everyone starts hitting him, yet again. Geez. Do the Avengers ever do anything else?

Atlas and W.M. are stuck about what to do with the bomb before it blows up. They could always try hitting it. That seems to be the preferred method for anything these days. Neffie gets tired of getting hit, so he breaks open the town water tower and unleashes a flood. Then he rants and raves for a while. Then the bomb blows up.

Atlas and W.M. save the day, though, by absorbing all the energy.

Neffie blows a gasket and flies up to whup some ***, but he loses control and overloads his energy, killing himself. Madame Masque leaves, but Mach-2 talks to her. He lets her go, after offering her help from the Tbolts.

I think she would have made a great member, but she refused. They call in a medlab, and there's some dramatic tension as to whether or not Atlas and W.M. will pull through, but I knew all along that they wouldn't die.

Then there's a continuation of an Avengers plot (I think it's a continuation. I haven't been able to read Avengers for a while. (My comic book shop stinks) that has someone who calls himself Doc and thinks that Wasp is his wife watching a newscast with Goliath standing in the background. Weird.

General Overview. I like this issue. The whole thing's fun, and it was neat to see some smart tactics used by Neffie. Diversions and the like. The part where Mach-2 offers M.M. help is cool, too. I like seeing Atlas fly, and wish he'd have kept that ability. I liked the interaction and dialogue. A good read.
