The "Desert Hawk" was the leader of a group of nomads in North Africa. The Hawk originally wore a swastika and led a growing band of desert nomads against the British forces in the deserts of North Africa. The Hawk was a very skilled horseman and fighter who commanded the loyalty of a large band of nomads who were doing increasing amounts of damage to the British forces in the area. So Sergeant Fury and his Howling Commandos were called in to deal with the Hawk, who dressed nomad style but wore a mask under his burnoose.
Naturally, Sergeant Fury located the Hawk and discovered that the Hawk is Ben Ali Mussim, a local leader. The Nazis had lied to Ben Ali Mussim, telling him that his wife was killed by the British while leading a caravan. Ben Ali Mussim, a blowhard who does not seem extremely bright, believed them and began warring on the British. Sergeant Fury et al help show Ben Ali Mussim the light, and by the end of the story he is agreeing to fight for the Allies against the Nazis.
