Since playing an afternoon slot at last year's Reading Festival, pop/rock outfit Razorlight are now releasing single Golden Touch amid a whirl of media excitement.
BBC Berkshire speaks to guitarist Bjorn ahead of their return to Reading.
When Bjorn Agren finally answers his phone there is all manner of clanging runaway notes in the background. "We're in the middle of rehearsals!" he shouts over the music.
Luckily the band take a five minute break so that the Swedish guitarist can tell BBC Berkshire what they're up to ahead of the Reading festival.
"We're in rehearsals with our new drummer", he says amid sudden peace and quiet, "the other one quit because of health differences, though with the amount of work we do it was bound to happen.
"We've now got a new drummer called Andy but I'm not sure if I'm supposed to tell you that!"
Oh well tough really. So did you just wear the other down?
"The best we try to do is never enough, it wasn't that hard to wear him down." A bunch of perfectionists then! "Yeah! Perfectionists."
It's not uncommon of course for young aspiring bands to try their hardest, but this art punk-rock band (to their disdain they get described as 'radio-friendly Libertines') make it quite clear that they're striving "to be the best band in the world".
"There's no point saying we're going to be a half-good band" replies Bjorn.
And only half-good wouldn't have got them where they are today: a band fresh and buzzing with talent, an army of fans and an upcoming debut album, Up All Night, that's a firm favourite at NME HQ already.
A lot of people would've seen them at the Reading Festival last year when they played on the Carling Stage in the afternoon after Franz Ferdinand. How was it for you last year Bjorn?
"The festival? Yeah it was great, we thought there would only be about 50 people throwing eggs or something, but the tent was really rammed. People couldn't get into the tent it was so full, we really wiped the floor."
And how will this year's effort on stage compare? "We were pretty green last year, we'd done only like a week's tour but now the songs have evolved, the singing's evolved the playing's evolved. We're now ten times better than last year if not more."
Ten times better than before? Well, the 'Best Band in the World' award can't be far off then. |
