"Razorlight have been billed in some parts of the music press as a replacement for the imploding Libertines, so, with news of Pete and Co.'s recent post-prison reunion, you have to ask the question - is there really any need for them anymore?
Well Razorlight have certainly got the songs to fight their corner - the stop-start guitars of new single 'Rip It Up', the new-wave racket of 'To The Sea', and the blistering crescendo of set-closer 'In The City' are all highlights in a strong 30 minute set and, judging by the oestrogen levels emanating from the girls in the front row, they've certainly got the looks too, as if stumbling onto the stage straight from the catwalk.
But despite the band throwing all the right moves, there's no real charm or substance to back it up. Too many of tonight's songs have a real potential that is lost by the detached attitude of the band. At times Razorlight feel flat, soulless - like a band of Pop Idol rejects manufactured to cash in on the new-rock revolution. There's no Pete'n'Carl-style chemistry going on here, no Strokes-dynamism, no Black Rebel mystery.
So Razorlight have got the songs and they've got the looks, but as the Strokes said "Is This It?"
