X-Ray Issue #5 - John Kennedy
" "God i hate hype.  And yet I could be getting dangerously close to creating it in this column this month.  It's not very often the claims made by some people about the demos they send me prove to be true. So when I read the statement 'Best unsigned band in London!' late last year, I took a big pinch of salt as i shoved the CD-R in the machine.

What I then heard really surprised me. It was so good i had to play it on the show that night. The listener reaction to it was so great, I had to keep playing it for the next few weeks. The three songs on te demo evoked Television, Patti Smith, but with the kind of pop punch that the Strokes manage to pull off so well. There was a confidence and self assurance to the delivery that belied the few months the band had been together, and the songs stuck in your head like love bites on your neck. They hadn't reinvented rock'n'roll but they made you feel like you were hearing it for the first time.

Razorlight is the name of the band. 'Rip it Up', 'Rock'N'Roll lies' and 'In The City'  were the songs on the demo. Since playing them on the radio for the first time, the band have come in and done a session for the show. It was so good, its been aired twice already. The word has spread. Queues go round the corner whenever they play now, even though they haven't released a record. That's about to change. The ink is still drying on a deal that should see the debut single out in July. I just hope you get as excited as I am."
