This is a help page for people like me who are new to HTML and web page
building.

I want to make it as easy as possible to understand so if anything is
unclear, just e-mail me and let me know.

OK Here we go. I think the best place to start out is in your e-mail signature box.
That's one place that if you mess up no one really cares. For the sake of the codes showing up for you I'm going to substitute (parentheses) for the (<>brackets<>) that you will normally use. So please don't get confused about this. Here is the basic code you
must have for an e-mail signature to work.

(HTML)
(/HTML)

The first one opens the document up as an HTML document, and the second one closes the HTML document.

The next code is the BODY code. It contains everything that you want to see as far as colors, images, music, or whatever else in your e-mail.This also is a two part code, and it goes between the two HTML codes like this:

(HTML)

(BODY)

(/BODY)

(/HTML)

I usually put these codes in first and then go shopping for what I want. Next I usually put in my background. So to do that, I go up to the first (BODY) code and remove the (>) which leaves (BODY then I type a space and BACKGROUND="" Once I find the background thumbnail that I like, I hit "goto", then "show last" which brings up the url of the background. Then I hit cmd A to highlight it, cmd C to copy it and I go to my signature box and go between the "" and hit cmd V to paste the url in. With the other codes already there it saves a lot of time and I don't usually forget anything that way.

Now we have the following codes.

(HTML)

(BODY BACKGROUND="URLOFBACKGROUND")

(/BODY)

(/HTML)

Now if you want your own background color instead of a gif or jpg background, you type:

(BODY BGCOLOR="The color you want")

You can either use a color chart and type in the
number of the color or just name the color, like "red" for instance.
Now here we go again.

But this time we're going to center everything!

(CENTER)
(HTML)
(BODY BACKGROUND="URL OF BACKGROUND")(/CENTER)
OR
(BODY BGCOLOR="# OR NAME OF COLOR")(/BODY)(/CENTER)
(/HTML)

Now that we have all that memorized, (LOL) you may want to change the color of your text to work better with your background. In that case, remove the (>) at the end of the background code, and simply type a space then
TEXT="color name or #")

I know this seems like a lot of work, but really it does get easier once you get the hang of it. You only have to type the codes once. I'm doing it several times to show you where each one goes. So please don't think you have to change them every time you add something new.

Now that you have a background and text color you may want an image that really "speaks" to you. Please don't give up on me now, because we aren't far from being done. For that special graphic like the ones you've seen on other people's e-mails, just add this code:

(IMG SRC="the url of the image") Then your signature will go something like this...

(center)(HTML)(BODY BACKGROUND="url of background")(/center>
or
(center)(BG COLOR="color or #of color")(/CENTER)
(center)(IMG SRC="url of image")(/center)
(/BODY)
(/HTML)

"WHEW! Now if you want a mid here is the code for that. I'm not going to do the whole thing over again here. Your mid code can go anywhere in the body of your page, but I like to put it as the last of the codes right before (/BODY) AND (/HTML). This way it is easier to get to, and to change your mid if you decide to. Here is the code to embed a midi and have it play continiously:
(BGSOUND SRC="url of midi" AUTOSTART="true" LOOP="infinite" delay="0")

There is a lot more that you can do with your e-mail, but since I'm just a beginner myself, and it would also take more time than you or I have, I will leave the other stuff up to the experts. If you have any trouble with this, you can always e-mail me and I will try my best to help in any way I can. So with that, I will say HAVE FUN WITH YOUR E-MAIL and I will go work on some more fun stuff!
