David Elric Acker
Dave, a native of Swansea, Mass., graduated from M. 1. T. in 1938. He
is employed as a chemical engineer at Arthur D. Little, Inc., Cambridge, Mass., a firm of research and engineering consultants. Marion is deeply involved in Girl Scout activities. Together they have been responsible for the formation of several Bible stuy groups. Residence: Bedford, Mass.
Karl Warren Acker
Karl, a graduate of the Lexington, Mass., High School, completed the aircraft technicians' course at the Northrop Institute, Inglewood,
Calif. fie served in the U. S. Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He is employed as a mechanic by American Airlines, La Guardia Airport, New
York City. Jeanne was a photography major at Santa Monica City
College and has continued working in this field. Kark is an avid
stamp collector and they both enjoy camping. Residence: East Meadow (Long Island), New York.
Alfred Clarence Bachelder
Alfred received his B. S. from the Rhode Island School of Design in 1943 and served as an engineering officer in the U. S. Navy during World War II. Ile attended Northwestern University and North Carolina State College and received an M. S. from the University of R. 1. in 1952. He is
an associate professor of mechanical engineering and has been on the staff of the University of R. 1. for twenty years. Since 1960 he has been Director of the Engineering Instrument Laboratory. Residence: North Kingstown, R. 1.
Charles Walter Bachelder
Charlie, or C.11., is a long-time resident and well known business man
in Athol. Ile is a graduate of the New Salem Academy, class of 1910.
As a young man he worked as a machinist for the L. S. Starrett Company, but he soon decided that his work would be more rewarding if he devoted his energies toward his own business.
The start was a gasoline pump in his front yard. In time it expanded into three service stations in town, and for many years this business was the major portion of the Bacheider enterprise. The business has
added fuel oil, and gradually other types of automotive service have been incorporated. The service stations later were dropped. Thelma and the four sons have long been participants in the business. Charles has always been ready to give family members and friends a helping hand. It is characteristic that through a variety of partnerships he has enabled otliers to benefit from business ownership. In addition to these activities, he has acquired several parcels of real estate for rental income. Some of his enterprises are Bachelder's Automotive Distributors, Inc., Bachelder Oil Co., Inc., Bachelder Truck and Equip- ment Co., Eadco Nianufacturing Co., White Paper Box Company, Beach Com- pany (Gardner), Bacheider Truck Sales Co., (Gardner). lie is a member and trustee of the Athol Memorial hospital, a director of the Athol
Credit Union, and a member of The Bxcliange Club, The Rotary, the T'Ully Lodge of the Order of Odd Fellows, Athol Historical Society, Athol Sportsman's Club, and the Swift River Valley Historical Society.
Leola was a devoted mother and managed the household while her husband spent long hours nurturing a growing business. As the children grew older, she was able to give time to church work and was the first pres- ident of the Women's Society of Christian Service of the Starrett Wm- orial Methodist Church. Her death followed a long illness.
Marian is dedicated to the welfare of her husband. She has the respect and affection of the family of which she has become a part. Residence: Athol, Mass., and St. Petersburg, Fla.
Clarence Elbridge Bachelder
Clarence attended the Providence Technical High School and worked as a machinist for the Rhode Island Tool Company for eleven years. He then worked as a weatherstrip mechanic for the Chamblain Company until his death. Helen attended Providence High School and has studied art for many years with C. Gordon Farris of Wickford, R. I. She has ex hibited in several art shows over the years and received a second place award in a recent art show in Show Low, Arizona. Residence: Peace Dale, R. 1.
Clarence Whitaker Bachelder
Clarence is a graduate of the Athol High School and attended Becker junior College, Worcester, Mass. Ile was in the U. S. Army from Aug., 1944, to Jan., 1946, and served in the European Theater. He was a
member of the Town of Athol Finance Committee, 1947-1950, and the School Committee, 1954-1961. He is a member of the Athol Lodge, A. F. & A. M. Ile has been associated with the Bachelder Truck and Equipment Co., Inc., (started 1944), with the Gardner branch,(which was started in 1954 and was changed to Bachelder Truck and Sales, Inc., in 1958,) and with Marble Transportation, Inc., which was started in 1955. Bar- bara and'Clarence spend summers at Packard freights (Orange, Mass.), and have been interested in raising dachshunds. Residence: Athol, Mass.
Donald Francis Bachelder
Donald is a graduate of the Athol High School. He served four years (Korean War) in the U. S. Air Force, achieved the rank of Staff Sergeant, and was nominated for the Airman-of-the-Month Award, Davis-Mon- than Air Force Base. He attended Tucson, Ariz., Business College. He is a salesman for Bachelder's Automotive Distributors, Inc., and recently became active in the business of the White Paper Box Co., Athol.
Lorraine is active in Cub Scouts and as a leader in Bluebrirds. Together they planned and built their home. They are avid boaters and the family enjoys travel and carping. Residence: Athol, Mass.
George W. Bachelder
George's middle name, believed by tiie family to be Walter, is given as William in the record of his death. After Edith's death he moved from Orange to Rhode Island, vaiere he lived for several years. A Mason, he worked for the Herreshof Boat Company, Bristol, and the Narragansett Brewery, Providence. He returned to Athol two or three years before his death.
