   In 1760 Lieut. Benjamin Batchelder was in Montreal as a soldier in the French & Indian War on the arrival of the news of the death of George II
and accession of George III.  On his return he brought the seed of the Wickopee tree (or Withe Bearing Tree); held commission as an Ensign and
Lieut. under King George.  Lieut. Benjamin during the Quebec expedition under Benedict Arnold was ordered to take a detachment of men to an exposed situation and conceal themselves by lying flat on the ground.  An officer reported Lieut. Benjamin as standing erect alone and exposed to the fire of the enemy.  On arrest for disobedience of orders he found to his great surprise he had been standing as a target for the enemy. 
   Benjamin Bachelder was a sergeant n Captain Jonathan Tilton's company during the French and Indian War according to Potter's Military History
of New Hampshire, p. 146. 
   Lieut. Benjamin lived in Kensington until 1762, but is of Candia in 1763, and until 1812, when he removed to Andover, New Hampshire.  He was one of the first board of Selectmen of Candia in 1764.  He was admitted with his wife to the Chester Church on June 19, 1768.

    Nathan lived at East Kingston until November, 1769 , when he sold out and moved to Loudon, then part of Canterbury, where he was taxed in 1770.  He settled at Loudon Ridge and soon became the leading citizen of Loudon.  He was authorized to call the first meeting of the town in 1773.  He was selectman at East Kingston in 1767, and at Loudon nearly every year from 1774 to 1783.  He was a member of the Committee of Safety in 1775, and Justice of the Peace from July, 1776.  He was a member of the New Hampshire provincial Congress in 1775, and Representative for several years, besides various other public duties.
   Nathan was a Lieutenant in the militia in 1766, and in August 1775 was appointed Major of the regiment which included Loudon.  Loudon town records show several soldiers were paid for going to Concord following the Battle of Lexington, and with these items is one paying Nathan Bachelder "for going to Exeter in the time of the Concord fight."   Major Nathan was with the Loudon company which started for the relief of Ticonderoga, July 5, 1777, but turned back after going seventy five miles on news of its evacuation.

   Nathaniel lived at East Kingston, where he was known as Nathaniel, Jr., until 1769, when he moved to Loudon.  He was taxed in Canterbury, then including Loudon, in 1770, and taxes in Loudon from 1774 to 1795, usually as "Ensign."  In 1815 he was called "Deacon."  Early in 1796 he moved to Canterbury, and remained there a number of years.  In 1815 and 1816, he was a resident in Concord, New Hampshire, but the next year was in Marshfield, Vermont, until his death.
   In Loudon Nathaniel frequently held the office of auditor.  He was also constabel and tax collector. 
   Nathaniel and his wife owned covenant at East Kinston Church October 20, 1765.  The will of Richard Currier of South Hampton, dated October 9,
1767, names his daughter Hannah, wife of Nathaniel Bachelder.
