BATCHELDER NAMED MANAGER OF S&L FIRM - Greta Batchelder has been elected vice-president and manager, Kauai Operations of American Savings and Loan. American Savings has recently merged with Kauai Savings and Mrs. Batchelder was secretary and manager of the latter association, which she joined in 1964. Their merger becomes effective December 31, 1971. In addition to her promotion, Mrs. Batchelder has been named a member of the Hawaii Division Loan Committee. The announcement was made following a recent American Savings board of directors meeting. Mrs. Batchelder moved with her family to Kauai in 1964 from Oahu where she had been leasing department officer at Kaneohe Ranch Ltd. Since 1957. He mined with Pelen Smith, James Baird and W. Houston. They had a claim together in Hancock Cty, Colorado. He died of an accident in the mine probably on August 1, 1883. Daniel set up some explosive charges in the mine, some time after the explosion James Baird said they should reinforce the mine but Daniel said he didn't think it needed it. Daniel went into the mine and a boulder fell and hit his head killing him. The date of the last letter he sent to Almira was July 11, 1883. Daniel always called Almira "wife".
