BATCHELDER NEW MANAGER OF SAVINGS & LOAN Mrs. Greta Batchelder has been appointed manager of the Kauai Savings & Loan Association, it was announced this week. Mrs. Batchelder, who has been with the Association for three years, took over her new duties April 1. Allen Winer, former manager, has resigned and left to return to the Mainland with his wife and two children. The new Savings and Loan executive combines homemaking and career. She and her husband John are parents of two daughters, Patricia, an assistant buyer with Macy's in San Francisco and Joan, who is graduating in accounting in June at Oregon State University. BATCHELDER NAMED MANAGER OF S&L FIRM - Greta Batchelder has been elected vice-president and manager, Kauai Operations of American Savings and Loan. American Savings has recently merged with Kauai Savings and Mrs. Batchelder was secretary and manager of the latter association, which she joined in 1964. Their merger becomes effective December 31, 1971. In addition to her promotion, Mrs. Batchelder has been named a member of the Hawaii Division Loan Committee. The announcement was made following a recent American Savings board of directors meeting. Mrs. Batchelder moved with her family to Kauai in 1964 from Oahu where she had been leasing department officer at Kaneohe Ranch Ltd. Since 1957. She is active in Big Sisters and Kauai Chamber of Commerce. In making the annoucement, Jack Palk, president of the company, added he has been pleased to appoint Greta Batchelder manager of this new office. Ms. Batchelder, a long time resident of Kauai, was formerly associated with Kauai Savings & Loan which eventually became a branch of American Savings and Loan. He mined with Pelen Smith, James Baird and W. Houston. They had a claim together in Hancock Cty, Colorado. He died of an accident in the mine probably on August 1, 1883. Daniel set up some explosive charges in the mine, some time after the explosion James Baird said they should reinforce the mine but Daniel said he didn't think it needed it. Daniel went into the mine and a boulder fell and hit his head killing him. The date of the last letter he sent to Almira was July 11, 1883. Daniel always called Almira "wife". When he wrote letters to her he never used her name anywhere in the letter. (Ed. note: Included here, but needs documentation.) |
