Yesterday I received an email from Aloise Bachelder which her son, Eric
Bachelder had received from you.

Let me introduce myself to you.  I am Lois Graham Lee.  I was born in Owosso, Shiawassee County, Michigan in 1928.  My Great Grandfather, Othniel Thomas Graham married Eliza Jane Bachelder 27 August 1871.  I have copied both of these death notices from the county courthouse in Corunna, MI.

While researching the Graham family I found that Othniel's parents, John and Hannah Graham built a house on what later became known as the Clinton Bachelder farm.  So the Graham's and Bachelder's became linked.

Through the Later Day Saints web site I reasearched the Bachelder family through Eliza's parents:
Sylvanus Bachelder and Mary C. Hawley.  (Aloise told me that Mary C. was actually the Samantha I was looking for spelled with a Camantha and preceeded by Mary.)  They were both born in NY and came to Michigan to Clinton County a neighboring county of Shiawassee Co.  Sylvanus and Mary C. and Eliza Jane are all in the 1850 & 1870 Census records.

The LDS site has some errors and I'm not sure which submitter has the true genealogy of the Bachelder family.  That site has Sylvanus decending from Thomas, from Ephraim, from five Nathaniels, from Stephen, and from Philip.
This Stephen Bachelder was born in 1561 in Stoneham, Southampton, Hants., England and his wife is listed as Mrs. Stephen Bachiler born 1561 in Wherwell, Hampshire, England.  Some spell it Batchelder but my Mother told me it was Bachelder.

My parents both graduated from Owosso High School in 1922 and they had a classmate by the name of Beatrice Bachelder.  No further information.

Sincerely,
Lois Graham Lee

Ray:
I left a comment in your "guest book" yesterday. I said I was the author
of the article on Sylvanus Bachelder which appeared in THE EPISTLE in 1986,
edited by Rosemary Bachelor (since ceased publishing). It is included
verbatim in the file submitted by Joan Batchelder Hachtel. I would appreciate
proper attrinution of source.
Not sure I want to be part of an E-mail Bachelder group. My father's
entire ancestry is covered in my book, NEW ENGLAND ANCESTRY OF BACHELDER OF ALAMO, MICH., self-published, 2002.

The Michigan connection has been elusive. However, with bits and pieces from Shelia Bachelder, Glenn L. Bachelder & Joan Danielle Batchelder Hachtel, we are closer to finding that we are connected. For that reason It is being published now in the hopes that the final keystone will be found.
