Note:  James Peter Prentice came to America about 1838.  He and a cousin, a Mr. Shiels, probably John, walked to Greenup, Illinois from the east coast, carrying their tools and all that they owned.  Mr. Prentice was a stone - mason and did work for the railroad, which now is called the Penn-Central.  he was the father of nine children, 6 daughters and 2 sons.  This information came from Mrs. Gladys Kelly, granddaughter of James P. Prentice.

* Original reading done in 1970.  Readers made note that cemetery was becoming overgrown.  According to sources, the owner of the farmland turned the cemetery over to the county a few years ago.   The cemetery is now in very well kept condition.  The people marked with a * have stones present, but were not on the original reading.   I am assuming these people were either overlooked, or their stones were covered at the time of the reading.
