Miss Binnie, Boy George and Marilyn, Breaking Glass lauch party, 1981 Stephen's friend Christine Binnie moved into the corner house. Binnie opened a beatnik café in the disused shop and called it the "Coffee Spoon". There was no running water, so she organized a water patrol, which consisted of filling empty cider bottles next door and carrying them back. The limited menu was poetic, tea was a T. S. Eliot, toast a Robbie Burns and coffee a Cavafy. Miss Binnie, as she was known, truly had her lid off and everyone loved her. She held poet readomgs where her film student friends John Maybury and Cereth Wyn Evans would project their latest workd over your naked body. We were all encouraged to express ourselves through poetry or song. Boy George - Take It Like A Man The Coffee Spoon together, sipping tea and planning how to take The Establishment by storm, Many did. When Christine Binnie wore toilet paper to The Embassy the papers wrote about her in the same sentence as Mick Jagger, when she wore a corrugated paper dress ( created by David Holah ) to the Blitz Honey magazine snapped her in the street.
