INTRODUCTION

This page is concerned with artists which are inspired by J.R.R. Tolkien's works, such as Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, the Silmarillion and the world of Middle Earth.
Biography, artwork, pics, books and other information on various painters, such as Alan Lee, John Howe, Ted Nasmith and other artists such as singer/songwriter Donald Swann and director Peter Jackson are available through the links below.

John Howe
Painter/illustrator, known for his various Tolkien calendars. He is most renowned for the painting "Gandalf", which was on the cover of various paberback editions of LOTR. This painting and other Howe Tolkien pictures were stolen from an exhibition. Howe is a conceptional artist for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Movie Trilogy (New Line Cinema).

Peter Jackson
Movie director, known for his motion picture trilogy "The Lord of the Rings"

Alan Lee
Painter/illustrator, known for the various illustrated editions of Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit. Conceptional artist for Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings Movie Trilogy (New Line Cinema).

Ted Nasmith
Painter/illustrator, known for various Tolkien calendars and the illustrated edition of the Silmarillion.

Donald Swann
Singer/songwriter, known for his theatre tour "at the drop of a hat" with M. Flanders in the 1960's. Swann was inspired by the poems and songs in the Lord of the Rings and put some of them to music, resulting in the songcycle "the road goes ever on".
