Oct 13 2009 - Local radio BBC Essex paid a visit to the band room and interviewed a few of the players at the rehearsal. An item is currently on their BBC Essex website Oct 9 2009 - After the success of last year's Remberence Service, the organisers have chose Redbridge Brass to provide music for the service to be held at St Pancras International Station. This is a public service with music starting around 10am at Rendezvous on the station's upper concourse Sept 20 2009 - "..another great concert, and Rosie was excellent too" said one of our regular supporters after the Kenneth More Theatre concert. Sept 8 2009 - The launch event for a BFI project ‘This Working Life – King Coal’ featured a concert by the band on the banks of the thames at the Riverfront Cafe, part of the British Film Institute complex on the Southbank. A crowd developed who cheered and applauded enthusiastically to many of the concert's programme items. Amanda Nevill, Director of the BFI said later, 'It was a joy to listen to the Redbridge Band play at BFI Southbank at the launch of our King Coal project. The music was vibrant, haunting and stylishly performed. It created a fantastic atmosphere at our event. Crowds of passers-by loved it too!' Sept 1 2009 - Rehearsal start again, starting with the test pience for the Albert Hall national finals contest in Oct, plus music for the forthcoming concerts. Aug 1 2009 - Summer hols and most of the band jet off to Alderney for the annual 'Alderney Week' festivities. Organised by Alan Roberts the band known as the Alderney Blowers, support the islanders with concerts and musical backing to the glitzy show. Jun 27 2009 - After many years of invovement with the band, Phil Littlemore (cornet) has decided to stand down as a full time player. We wish to thank him for his service to the band and wish him well for the future. Additionally, Nick Garman (cornet), has decided to stand down to continue his studies. An so we also thank Nick for his support and wish him every success. The band is now pleased to welcome Jordan Carpenter to the cornet section. May 22 2009 - The band is pleased to be providing music for the Chipping Ongar Primary School annual BBQ on 7th July. The school currently provide rehearsal space for the band each week for which it is very grateful indeed. May 19 2009 - the band make final preparations before the Masters contest at Cambridge, playing against some really top flight band s from the UK and Europe. May 10 2009 - After some weeks of hard work the band competed at the Grand Shield contest in Blackpool. The band played well gaining positive comments from adjudicators and press but on this occasion were placed 10th out of the 20 bands fighting for a place in the British Open. April 18 2009 - Stirring sounds from the band concluded the pre-show music giving the audience an uplifting experience setting the scene before curtain up. Mar 22 2009 - More fantastic news in the contesting scene with the band retaining the title of London and Southern Counties Champions. The result continues the astounding success of this London band and a second major win with MD, Jeremy Wise, at the helm. Mar 11 2009 - Producers of a play, 'Maggie's End', have chosen the band to provide music for the grand opening and closing of the production at The Shaw Theatre in London on 7th and 18th April. The play, a black comedy about a state funeral for Margaret Thatcher, is being staged to commemorate the 25th anniversary of the miner's strike and is supported by the NUM North East Area, the GMB, the RMT, Unison and Unite. Mar 8 2009 - The band welcomes Dave Stokes who returns to the band after a leading Welwyn Garden City band as MD. Dave joins the tuba section on BBb tuba. Mar 2 2009 - The BBC invited the band to record a session for BBC Radio 2's show 'Listen to the Band'. The recording went well with solo items from principal cornet, Ralph Brill and principal trombonist, Jayne Murrill. The broadcast date is yet to be announced. Feb 1 2009 - Manuel Vogtli, cornet, has decided to step down from the band to focus on work activities. The band would like to thank Manuel for his commitment and wish him well for the furture. The band now welcomes Lizi Sawyer to the cornet section, who also was involved in the recent Butlins contest win. Feb 1 2009 - Another great concert at the Kenneth More Theatre, this time taking on a big band era theme. Even though the weather turned cold and snowed, a sizable audience enjoyed the swing and jazz items, plus special guests Chadwell Primary School cornet players, and singer, Ami Anders. Jan 18 2009 - 2009 gets off to a fantastic start with the band taking 1st place at the 2009 Butlins Mineworkers Festival from the Skyline Resort, Skegness. more details Jan 1 2009 - The band welcomes Martin Britt on soprano cornet. Martin joins the band from Desford Colliery. Dec 19 2008 - The OneShow on BBC1 invited the band to add some Christmas music to conclude their Christmas Special programme. Here are some moments from the show. This marks the end of our 2008 calendar and so we wish everybody a very Merry Christmas and say thanks for supporting us during the year. Dec 10 2008 - The band has been invited to record a set for BBC Radio 2's show, Listen to the Band. A recording date is likely to be in late January with the broadcast a few weeks after that. We'll announce the date as soon as we know. Dec 1 2008 - the band are extremely pleased to welcome Martin Britt on soprano cornet who will join in time to compete with the at the Butlin's Mineworkers contest in January. Martin previously played with Desford Colliery for the past 12 years. Nov 20th 2008 - the band are very pleased to welcome Ali Wood to the band as our 2nd baritone player. Nov 1st 2008 - The band has been invited to play at St Pancras International, as part of a 9-day free music festival which includes an Armistice Day service. The band performs at 10:15am at the 'Rendezvous' on the Upper Concourse. Oct 6th 2008 - The band has been invited to contest at the Butlins Mineworkers Open National Brass Band Festival held at Skegness on 17th and 18th January 2009. The band are very pleased to return to this contest after having to withdraw at the last minute in the 2008 contest due to the unexpected departure of the band's MD. The Championship section test piece is 'Harrison's Dream' by Peter Graham, and on Sunday the bands perform an entertainment programme hosted by BBC Radio 2’s Frank Renton. Sept 23rd 2008 - 2nd baritone player and band treasurer, Paul Skinner, has sadly decided to leave the band due to work and family commitments. Paul has been with the band for many years and will be greatly missed. We wish him best wishes for the future. The band is now looking for a suitable player to take over from Paul. see Players Sept 2nd 2008 - ...back from holiday and the band is now preparing for the National Finals contest at the Albert Hall, plus our next concert at Ilford's Kenneth More Theatre. The band also welcomes back Euphonium player, Lauren Petritz-Watts, after a work related exchange visit to Australia. July 29th 2008 - The band takes a well earned summer break. July 25th 2008 - Redbridge Brass appear as special guests on BBC Radio 2’s ‘Friday Night is Music Night’ July 12th 2008 - The band join forces with Essex Polce Band in concert at Hadleigh Salvation Army Hall and play to a packed house. July 6th 2008 - On a wet Sunday in Kensington Park the band delighted London crowds with a selection of light music from the bands current repertoire. The band were rewarded with warm applause and some sunshine! June 29th 2008 - The band gives a performance on the Glastonbury festival's Park Stage June 28th 2008 - English National Brass Band Championships contest at Preston followed by a speedy hike down to Glastonbury for an appearance on the No.2 stage with Hot Chip June 23rd 2008 - The band has been booked for a guest appearance on BBC Radio 2's Friday Night is Music Night. Recording 4th July. June 21st 2008 - Summer Solstice and 1 week till the band's Glastonbury debut supporting 'Hot Chip' plus their own concert on the Park Stage. May 25th 2008 - WOW! the band achieves its best ever result at the Cambridge Masters contest yesterday - an amazing 4th placing in this very well appointed line-up of British and European bands. May 22nd 2008 - Another top flight performance for international company Group4Securicor, this time providing the backing for a lavish event at London's Old Billingsgate to give a rousing send off to their sponsored Olympic athletes. May 10th 2008 - Blackpool contest result. Placed 9th out of 20 bands nationwide - a very respectable position in this high calibre Championship contest. April 20th 2008 - Jeremy Wise is appointed as MD for the Blackpool, Grand Shield contest and All England Masters contest at Cambridge. April 16th 2008 - Band go to Dubai for a concert at the Group4Securicor Annual Conference. March 31st 2008 - Guest conductor, Robin Norman, leads the band at the Kenneth More concert and Trafalgar Square event. March 16th 2008 - The band win the Area contest ...again! March 5th 2008 - On April 6th, the band is to perform in Trafalgar Sq. as part of the Olympic Torch Festivities. February 29th 2008 - 'Hot Chip' fans go wild as the band performs dance tune medley. February 24th 2008 - Chart topping British electropop band, 'Hot Chip', have written a selection of their tunes especially for the final concert of their UK Tour 2008, and have invited the band to perform with them on stage at London's Carling Brixton Academy on Friday 29th Feb. January 30th 2008 - Appointed Rob Wiffin as Musical Director for the regional contest on 16th March. Rob says "I am very happy to be leading this fine band. It has a deserved reputation for the quality of its playing and I am looking forward to building a relationship with the band and making music of the highest order together". |
