TO MY LOVE

The way I feel when I’m held close in your arms
There is nothing that compares.
I couldn’t stand to lose your love
So I know I shouldn’t dare
To say the things that I do,
To mumble the nothings
Of no possible truth,
To pass off your pain as my own
And pretend to understand your thoughts.
There is nothing more of a mystery to me
Than the way you really feel inside,
When you hold it all away from me
As if you had a reason to hide.
And I shake my head in wonder
At why you’d be keeping it in,
I wish for the knowledge and strength
I need, to know where to begin.
To find out the things you keep deep in your soul
And pull them close to mine,
So I can be closer to you somehow
And I won’t be left behind.
