Rogers Clark Ballard Morton was born Sept. 19, 1914 in Louisville, Kentucky. In 1937 he graduated from Yale University. During WWII, Morton served in the U.S. Army, reaching the rank of Captain.
He was elected to the U.S. Congress, serving the 1st Congressional district in Maryland from 1963 to 1971. He was a Vice President hopeful at the 1968 Republican National Convention. Morton was the Chairman of the Republican National Committee between 1969 and 1971. He was the Secretary of the Interior from 1971 through 1975. He was the Secretary of Commerce in 1975. In 1979 Morton died in Easton, Maryland.
