William B. Saxbe was born June 24, 1916 in Mechanicsburg, Ohio. In 1939, Saxbe enlisted in the National Guard. He fought in WWII from 1940 through 1945, and then in the Korean Conflict from 1951 through 1952.
In 1940 he graduated from Ohio State University and graduated from OSU Law School in 1948. He was admitted to the Bar in 1948 and commenced his practice in Columbus, OH. A member of the Ohio State House of Representatives from 1947 through 1954. From 1957 through 1958 he served as Ohio Attorney General, then from 1963-1968 as its Chairman. He was on the Ohio Crime Commission from 1967-1968. Saxbe was elected as a Republican to the U.S, Senate in 1968, and served from Jan. 1968 until his resignation Jan. 3, 1974, to become Attorney General of the united States from Jan. 4, 1974 through Feb. 2, 1975. Saxby served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to India 1975-1977. He now practices law in Mechanicsburg, Ohio.
