This & That:
Marge Vaughan

Marge has been a club member for nearly 20 years, former secretary, and our Reminiscers Car Club President since the fall of 2006.  Marge and her late husband, Hugh, enjoyed cruising in their 1962 Buick.   After Hugh's passing 5 years ago, she purchased a 1930 Model  A Ford, and recently bought a 1929 Model A Ford Replica.
Marge had the honor of leading one of the most successful Father's Day car shows in the club's history in 2007.  Marge really enjoys car club activities, the great bunch of members she has gotten to know, and working with her fellow officers to improve all aspects of the club.  Marge is always looking to expand membership, involvement in local events, and ways to benefit our surrounding communities.  Marge has been an EMT for 15 years, and volunteers her time to several area organizations.  Watch for Marge "bombing around" in her '29 convertible this summer!
Earlier this month, my husband Don and I were fortunate enough to attend the 7th annual Barrett-Jackson Collector Car Auction in Palm Beach, Florida.  Barrett-Jackson welcomed more than 55,000 attendees to the event during the three day auction at the Americraft Expo Center at the South Florida Fairgrounds.  This proves that the collector car hobby is alive and well!  There were a large variety of great cars to choose from if you were in the market to buy.  New, antique, classic, race cars and pace cars, were lined up in giant tents awaiting their turn on stage, as well as a group of vehicles from the General Motors Heritage fleet.  The highlight came Friday with the emotional sale of the 1969 Chevrolet Camaro RS/SS custom.  The car was built with aftermarket parts provided by various manufacturers around the country.  The "Project American Heroes II" muscle car brought $500,000 following a bidding battle underneath a giant American flag above the auction block.  In the end, the car went to a Viet Nam veteran who stated "It's the least I could do".  All proceeds from the sale of the Camaro were donated to the Armed Forces Foundation, which provides financial support to service members and their families.  Other cars sold for charity included a pair of Ford Mustang concepts that fetched $175,000 each for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, and the first retail Ford Shelby GT500, that sold for $150,000 to benefit the Carroll Shelby Children's Foundation.

Wife:  "What are you doing dear"?
Husband:  "Swatting flies- I got 3 males and 2 females"
Wife:  How do you know which gender they were"?
Husband:  "Easy- 3 were on the beer, and the other 2 were on the phone"
