Here is JSUPT (Joint Specialized Undergraduate Pilot Training) at Laughlin AFB TX.  Middle of nowhere.
We fly the T-37 dual engine jet to train us in basics of flying skills and formation (Blue Angels stuff) tactics.
The T-37 phase is a hard 6 months of early mornings, 115F days on the runway and late nights studying and flying.  Laughlin is in Del Rio TX which is so small there is nothing to do at night anyways except study.  There are many international pilots there as well.  I helped Italian and Japanese pilots mostly.
If you are going to UPT or want to get a pilot slot in ROTC feel free to contact me, perhaps these photos will give you an idea of USAF pilot training.

Class 01-09  2 Flights, Jokers and Gunslingers

Gunslinger Flight

Once he thinks I can fly without killing myself or others I am gonna leave him and go alone.

Be sure not to run into anybody
Just finished flying by myself.

Sunset landing in TX, open that canopy for some cool air!

Vietnam era controls but FUN to fly.
The 37 was a fighter in Vietnam and most of our planes are Vietnam era vintage.

My instructor and I land at a private field to get lunch and gas and get ready to get going again!!! Everybody loves military pilots stopping in cause we are always so hungry!!

Davis, Genewick, Katz and I, all from LMU AFROTC in LA at Laughlin AFB

USAF water survival how to parachute into the ocean and not drown in your own parachute or get eaten by sharks.

how to get into a raft quickly without tearing a hole in it so the sharks don't get you! nice to know.

Signal flares for emergencies, here me and Ranj my roomate are smokin' out.  We also used Green dye which is a shark repellant too.

The Helo comes to rescue us just like in Top Gun, the rotor-wash was pretty intense.  And yes........ we do compare everything to Top Gun.  Pull me out before the sharks get to me.
.
Floating, not fun, VERY seasick. VERY cold.  Have I mentioned anything about Sharks yet?  Were there sharks in Top Gun???  I didn't see any.

Dunker training with Ranj.
