I still can't believe it! Today (22nd April 2004) I ordered a Filip 600 Sport with V-tail. Powered by an AXI2820/10 motor, a 12x6 Graupner CAM folding prop with turbo spinner, and a 8x2200 Panasonic battery pack.
What happened was, that I went to visit Shai at "Hashmal beAvir" (Hebrew for "Electricity in the Air"), to get a replacement sp400 for my Unicorn and to discuss upgrading to a brushless. Some guys came in to look at something "serious", and proceeded to open every box of everything of 2 meters and more. When I saw the Filip 600 Sport I knew. This was it. If a plane can be sexy, the Filip 600 Sport has it in spades!
After some humming and hawing, a price was mentioned (still expensive, but relatively reasonable) for the Filip, AXI motor, and everything else needed apart from Rx. I did some research on prices when buying from abroad and found Shai's price to be about $60 more then if I would buy everything seperately abroad. For that $60 I have local help, service, advice, and warantee, and peace of mind. And I help my LHS staying alive (as if he needed my help...)
The kit is a beautifully produced ARF. But the instructions leave a lot to the builders' imagination. This most definitely is not for a first time builder. I have build my son's ARF Hobbico Superstar 40, supervised.assisted him in building his ARF Great Planes Dazzler, build my Unicorn kit, and build my Mini Weasel kit. So I can say I have a bit of experience. The Filip ARF kit has left me scratching my head on several occasions. Read through the 12 pages of simple text and drawings several times, and then call your LHS for further instructions/ideas (and read these pages). Take your time, be patient, and think ahead. You'll enjoy building the Filip...
