Welcome to my Monster Mugi page.

I had seen pictures of these Coroplast creations on the internet, and always thought "neat".  Then, one day while going through Office Depot, I saw shelves of Coroplast sheets for the equivalent of $2.75  This woke up the cheapskate in me!  Servos, Rx, battery, pushrods etc I had enough of lying around, so for $2.75 plus glue, I could have myself a slope glider!  Just the idea that I could have a slope glider for under $5 realy got me going.

Now I got realy interested.   I checked out the
Mugi Website and found a wealth of information on building techniques, lots of "how-to's", and most importantly, plans.  They sell most of the bits and pieces you need for a Mugi, and they can even sell you a kit with all the material you need to build a M ugi.  Looking at the plans, I was amazed how simple it realy looks.  Several of my slope soaring friends -it turned out- had at some time or other also build and flown Mugi's with mixed results.
What did become clear was that for our slope environment and prevailing winds here in Israel the regular size (80cm wingspan) would be too small.  Good results were had with 100cm models.

So, I decided to be bold and make an even bigger one.  (Who said size doesn't matter? Am I subconsciously compensating for something? Hmm. On second thought, don't answer that...)  The standard size of the sheets being sold here are 125x80cm, so a quick calculation told me that I could make a 120cm wingspan Mugi (150%) out of a 120x60cm sheet.  I still had to finish and test fly my renovated Filip600Sport and also renovated 42" Unicorn, so I decided as soon as these are done, I'll get going on the Monster Mugi.

On the morning of August 4, 2006 I flew both the Unicorn and Filip. The next week I was on holiday. That Saturday evening I got two sheets of white coroplast (just in case, I know myself...).   White, because I was told the white sheets are marginally lighter than the other colors.

Monster Mugi building time!

The whole build took me about a total of 2 hours, but the glue I used (Bisonkit Contact Adhesive) was of the slow curing type.  So a lot of time was wasted just waiting for the glue to dry.  I started the build on the Sunday of my holiday. In between I also put up shelves, emptied out/cleaned out/sorted/put all the stuff back into the storage room, moved all my RC stuff into a new home with new shelves, drilled holes, hung pictures, and some more miscellaneous home improvement projects.  And still I had the Monster Mugi ready for her maiden flight on Friday morning!
