HISTORY:
Initially, the Tangerine Sailboat, designed by Brian Amato, was manufactured by Salt Marine of Ft Lauderdale FL in the late 70's. It is unknown how many Tangerines were produced as they were only built to order. When Salt Marine went out of business the molds were acquired by Sigma Sailcraft in Hollywood FL where the boats were manufactured and called the Sigma 18. Only 2 Sigma 18's have been located, and the company went bankrupt in 1980.
In the early 80's the Renken motorboat company bought the Tangerine company in an effort to try out the sailboat market.  Evidently, the company produced several hundred boats in the course of several years. The company then decided to move away from the sailboat market, and no longer manufactured the boat. As far as we can tell the molds were destroyed in a fire at the Renken plant in Charleston SC..

DESCRIPTION:
The sailboat is a ballasted shoal keel, with optional swinging centerboard, sloop with marconi-type sails and rigging. It is a fiberglass monohull pocket cruiser with a fiberglass deck. Although small in length, it offers a surprising amount of cabin space for it's size.
