-TwentyOneRest, Kimberly Kills, Rochelle Rochelle, Nothing to Lose-
The Scene
I love this band, have I ever mentioned that before? This was a very interesting day, and a lot of things got cleared up, and a ton of other stuff got out in the open. This was just the best thing ever. So.. Where to begin. Weston's not mad at me, Evan's not mad at me, Brant actually likes me, Aaron talked to me, Sean hugged me, Ally hugged me, Mairssa said hi to me.. It's really the littlest things that mean the most. That's my philosophy, but that's not the beginning. Let's see, rewind..

I called Erin right, to find out what time she was coming over so we could head down there, because it was almost five, so we had to leave. She calls me back and is like "I can't go", I seriously was about to cry. Then, the bitch she is was like "Just kidding".. Rrrrr. Anywaay, so she comes over and we go to get gas, she puts oil in her car, and I got Red Bull. There was like this hippie convention at the gas station. It was hilarious. They were SO stoned.. It's ok though. Hippie's are cool. They were heading North, that was all they knew. Oh, and one of them REALLY liked Erin's Dickies.. LoL.

So, we get on the freeway, tons of traffic. Duh, it was 5PM on a Friday afternoon. Traffic on the I5. Erin and I decided to throw in some Michael Jackson. Who doesn't like Michael Jackson? So, we're listening to it all loud, belting the lyrics "Billie Jean is not my lover".. it was just great. Then, 'Beat It' came on. Gotta' just love that song. So, I'm singing it, my window's rolled down, and I'm making these really.. uhh.. vulgar motions to the song. Insinuating.. Well, you get it. Anyway, there's this guy who's one of those must-drive-ten-and-two type of people, a real stick in the mud conservative type right. Well, the chorus starts and I'm all making my gesures and singing "Beat it, beat it, no one wants to be defeated", REALLY loud. He got all offended and rolled up his window.

We finally get down there, and pull into the Scene parking lot, and no one was there. Not surprising. It was maybe 6:15PM, and the doors didn't even open until 7PM. But, I REALLY had to pee. So, Erin and I drive across the street to this Quizzno's, but they didn't have a bathroom. So, we walk through the parking lot to this little Mexican restaurant.. Juanita's Taco's or something like that. They had a bathroom. But, Erin had to pee. So, I pushed her into the women's bathroom, and I went to the men's. It saved time. When you gotta' go, you've just got to go. No questions.

We went back to the Scene, and I finished my last Red Bull. I have four. The Red Bull thing was because of Wes Borland, and the fact that I have four of them is because of Nick.. But, I don't know if he knows that. Either way, Erin and I were walking around and talking, and I was drinking my Red Bull, and then Weston shows up. I saw the car.. I love that car. But, anyway. Weston shows up, and he's playing hackey-sack.. With himself mind you, considering Erin and I have NO hand-eye-foot coordination. So, we're talking about little stuff, and I was saying how Weston needed to wash his car. And, somehow or another, he starts talking about how "it's not the exterior look" of the Acura Type-R that is so amazing, but it's "the way it feels when you drive it".. Rrr. I hate him sometimes. But, then Brant shows up, and all of these people consecutively after him.

Erin and I head back to her car, and I'm sitting on her trunk and just watching people drive up. It was great. I was looking at this guy with these dreads right, and Brant was all waving his arms at me, but I didn't even notice. Then, he yells "Hey, I'm waving at you!!", and I was like, "Oh", so I waved at him. It was really funny. So, I'm looking at these red rims on this ugly green truck next to up, and up comes running Alex. He practically threw himself on me.. Aren't best friends great. So, we're sitting there talking about who knows what, and I see Aaron and Sean drive up, late, and I waved, they didn't notice. Oh well.

Alex, his girlfriend Melissa, his friend Stephen, Erin and myself are all just standing around talking right. And, it's like 7:30, but it was ok. We decided to listen to.. I don't remember. Propoghandi.. or ICP.. or something like that, but then Erin decided to put in Tenacious D. On the Tenacious D CD, for those of you who don't know, there's this song called 'Hard Fucking', and that's what it's about. You'd have to hear it to really understand. It's quite hilarious. So, Erin is blasting it, and her and I are belting the lyrics, just because we can. Alex and Melissa were laughing, and Stephen thought we were nuts. From what Erin said though, Weston was walking up, and he was all confused by the whole 'hard fucking' concept or something. He was lipping something to himself. I dunno, but I think it's funny. Either way, to Weston, I'm really not nuts, it's just the super little things in life that make me really happy.

Michael Jackson was burning in the back of our minds, so we played 'Beat It' again, and Erin and I were dancing all stupid in the street. Alex thought I was nuts, but it's ok. So, then it was maybe five until eight, so we decided to go in. We head in, and as soon as we do, I notice this HUGE amount of duct tape on the top right corner of the 21Rest poster on the wall. It doesn't take that much tape you guys.. But, whatever. All of their equipment was set up, but no band. I had a sad thought that maybe they already played, but then they would've been taking down their equipment as opposed to setting it all up. Some guy calls over the PA "TwentyOneRest to the stage please". They finally show up, and are being.. themselves.

Aaron made some crack about being the only band on for the night, so everyone was to jump up and down the whole time. It was funny. They finally did start playing though, and with the most awesome song in the world! 'Moon-Calf Friend'!!! I thought I was going cry, I was that happy. Aaron forgot to sing the lyrics in the very beginning of the song, but then remembered after that. From then on, he stuck to singing his lyrics, it was awesome. He looked good, not as in hott, but as in good. Like when you haven't seen someone in a while, and you've had this fleeting paranoia of what had happened to them, and then you see them again and you're just SO happy that they aren't dying or something. Yea, it was something like that. He just looked good.

Aaron got his lip pierced, on the right side, same as Weston and Nick. He got these highlights in his hair, too. It actually doesn't look half bad, kinda cool. Sean was wearing this black bandana on his head, over the dreads.. No bandana, just dreads. It looks cooler on stage. That whole getting really into playing bass and your hair kinda flops around. Like that. But, where was I?

Ah, yes. 'Moon-Calf Friend'. Aaron hit all of the notes. It was beautiful. It was honestly as great as when they played at the Epicentre back in March, it was that good. I thought I was going to cry. They played 'Know Me' after that, and it sounded awesome. The pause in the middle of it, the break after "Alright stop-", it was perfect. That is so hard for any band to do right live, to hit that timing, it was perfect. Yay! They went into 'Eating Tinfoil', one of the new songs. It was great. I love that song so much, but it hits me on a very deep personal level, but I love that song so much. It's awesome.

Alex was behing me the whole time trying to start some mosh-pit or something, it was kinda lame. But, that's alright. Aaron and Sean were so into the song itself, it was great. Aaron was totally working the mic at some parts, and it was simply fantastic. Stage presence my boys, and you guys TOTALLY found it. Brant was all psycho on drums. He's honestly the most entertaining person to watch, besides the funny faces that Aaron makes while he sings. It's great. Let's see, 'Eating Tinfoil' led into 'Closer to the Ground'. I was trying to pay attention to the song, but due to some random course of action, Alex poured a ton of water down my shirt, so I was dripping wet for a while. All good.

'Closer to the Ground' ended and the band went into 'Puddles'. That song is so pretty, in one of those wierd type of ways. I think it's just the chorus. Aaron and Weston find this beautiful harmony in the "Put the gun away" line. If you've never heard it, you're probably thinking, how can a line like "Put the gun away" be pretty, but trust me. There's this amazing point of singing where you don't really have to try anymore, it's just that good, and you realize that even if it isn't that good, you're singing it this way anyway because that's what you want. And, somewhere amidst those thoughts and a hundred others, you reach this point of harmonizing where it just sounds THAT good. Hard to explain, yes. Was it really that good, duh.

After that, they sang the new song.. Yea, I'm a wealth of information aren't I? It's called 'Burn Purple, and it's one of their best. It's slower, and there's this line in it, that I completely can't remember right now.. Yep, I'm a wealth of information. Never drink four Red Bulls and try to write a review at 2:33AM after not eating all day and going to a concert. It's all a bad idea. But, the song was beautiful. It's slower, as I said, but Aaron really sings it. It's great. You'd have to hear it, and maybe you can explain it better than I can, because it's not coming to me.

The Scene decided to be dumb and only let them play six songs. How sad is that? So, the band cleaned up their gear and headed off the stage. Kimberly Kills was on next, but I didn't really care. I saw Ally and Mariss, and I had to hug them both. I have this thing with hugging people. It was sad, they only saw the last song. I felt bad. It was such a great show, but it was sad that it got cut short. I mean, Aaron remembered all of the lyrics, Weston's mic was at perfect volume so that his vocals melded with Aaron's in the most awesome harmonies known to man, Brant was super into his drums, and Sean just made you smike because of those dreads. It's something about them, that and there was this one bass chord that was REALLY loud in the midst of some song, and you didn't really hear it, but you felt it. It was cool.

Erin and I headed outside to get the pictures of the Cane's show to give to Weston, and I grabbed this sheet I had of all of these people that wanted to see the band talk in my psych class. It had so many signatures on it, but it was cool. So, we gave the pix and the sheet to Weston, and he was all happy. Yay. Then, Brant starts talking to me about my writing reviews, and he wanted to know if this show was up to my standards. I guess he took offense to the fact that I was trashing on the last show, but that's just beacuse the last show wasn't that good. I didn't want to make him offended, but I don't lie, so these reviews are mostly the entire story of the night, and it's in complete honesty. I don't lie to people. I won't say a band is SUPER good, if they totally sounded like ass. I'm not like that. And, the Cane's show simply wasn't that good. There was too much tension on stage, and that break in stage character. When Aaron forgot his lyrics tonight, he just went straight into where it was in the song, he didn't break stage character. That was why tonight's show was that good. Short set, but the stage presence was there.

So, I hugged I think everybody except Weston. I said my "Hi and bye" to Aaron and hugged him. I told him "Everybody needs a hug", he smiled and agreed. I talked to Brant for a little while. We talked. Yes, no bad terms. Yay. I was happy. I love not being on bad terms with people. Gave him a hug too, but I think he thinks I'm kinda nuts because he seemed a little sketchy about the whole thing. No biggie. He said "Hi" to me, so I'm completely content right now. I went off to find Sean, and gave the guy a hug. He gives great hugs. Thought the world should know that. Erin still wants to fuck him. Thought the world should know that too. We talked for a little, and I found out that Brant has my picture. I had this box of crayons and a piece of paper, so I drew the band.. Pretty little stick people, and left it at Sean's house when I went up to Ramona the week before. Brant has it. I think that's great. I think it's even greater that Brant has actually seen my website. (Hi Brant :)!!!)

Erin and I were leaving shortly after that. I saw Ally again, and had to hug her again. I have to hug everyone. Usually. She made some comment about how I should leave my hair down. It was cute. Everyone tells me to leave it down, but I never do. It bothers me. But, she was heading off to go out to eat with Weston and Marissa, and so Erin and I headed off. We were leaving and saw this guy Stephen I know from my psych class, the one the band was supposed to talk in, and so we pulled into this parking lot. We get out and start talking to him and his friend, and we ended up there for like three hours talking. We watched Weston's car go back to the Scene to drop Marissa and Ally back off to get in their car, and watched Weston drive away to the freeway. It was funny. I was sitting there and like, "There goes Weston. Bye bye Weston." It was great.

Then, I wanted french fries, so I walked across the parking lot and got a small order of fries and four packets of sugar. I ate the sugar, and everyone ate my fries, but then it was like 11:30PM, and so we had to go. Erin and I said bye to Stephen and his friend, and we went back to Carls Jr. because Erin was hungry. So, she got food, and then we started driving home. We were driving and having this really deep conversation, which began back when we were talking to Stephen, and I was explaining to her why it is that I do a lot of wierd things I do and what not. It's a long very complicated story, but we were sorta telling our stories to one another. It was great therapy. LoL. Whatever. It was great. And, then I came home and decided to write the review. Oh LOOK!! Here I am. And, that was the night.

(See Brant, I told you the review would be good. :) LoL.)
