- London's Falling, Saving Madison,  Just a Joke, Playing for Keeps -
The Scene
Well, this is interesting now isn’t it? Yes, of course it is. A new band, and a first time for writing a review entirely based on them. Wow. Interesting. Anyway, London’s Falling played at the Scene, and I’m going to have to say that it was a beautiful show. Danni officially likes London’s Falling better than TwentyOneRest.. But, that’s a story I’ll get into later on. So, for now.. The tale of the night. Oh, and before I begin that, TwentyOneRest played this same night, but up at "The 56" in LA, and they had an awesome show. The band told me all about it, and the drums were perfectly miced, and Sean played a hella good bass, and the guitars and harmonies were just peachy.. I wish I went, but I didn't, so as opposed, this is the tale of what I did.

I had Sociology, my Tuesday-Thursday class from 5-6:15.. Well, the show started at 7:30, but you know me and my being early.. So, I left Sociology at around 6 and Erin was there to pick me up. There was this guy David with us, but he’s actually called other weird names and he’s kinda a freak. He went to his prom in a dress, and he hits himself, and plays ‘game’, which is a role-playing game based on Vampire Masquerade.. He’s just a little peculiar.

Anyway, I rode shotgun, and we headed to Danni’s house. She was staying with me this week, but happened to be at her house with Justin Wetherby. Justin decided he wanted to go, too, mainly just so he didn't have to go home. So, we all were like.. ok. LoL. Anyway, Erin and I made it to Danni's, and we picked her up, and got Justin as well, then headed to the gas station for something to drink. While we were there, we were being all loud and the gas station attendant was all yelling at us to be quiet. No being quiet. And, you remember those old style bracelets that you slapped on your wrist and they encircled it? Well, they make beer-huggies like that now, that will slap around your can, and so we were playing with those.

We did end up leaving, obviously, and got on the freeway. Danni and Justin were having this tickling problem, and David was all trying to say how he liked milk more than Danni. That's a lie. She drinks all of the milk in the world. No milk for anyone but Danni. It's like the song by Jeffrie's Fan Club, the one about milk.. Yep, that's Danni's theme song. Anywhoooo, we drove down there, and there surprisingly wasn't too much traffic. We got there kinda early, and parked. As we got out and were standing around chatting, it was sad to not see Weston or Brant come roll in. I'm so used to it as I stand in the Scene parking lot. Oh well. We stood around talking but then heard the bass drum of some band, so we headed inside.

Our favorite security guard, who's name happens to be Erik.. or was it Eric.. shit. Anyway, he's awesome. We always talk to him at the TwentyOneRest shows. Either way, we finally made it inside, and the lady who takes your tickets, whom we happened to give a 21Rest CD to at the last show, said she really liked them. Yay. She also mentioned to us that she'd let us in for free if we got her a certain 'present'.. LoL. But, I can't tell you what it is, otherwise it wouldn't be special anymore. :) She told us though that London's Falling was on first ,so we were stoked. There weren't as many people there as there are at TwentyOneRest shows.. That's a pretty harsh thing to say, but I don't mean it as an insult to anyone, just a statement.

Either way London's Falling wandered to the stage, and jammed out 'Color Changing Red', but I guess it was only supposed to be a warming up song or something, because they walked off the stage after that. Either way, it was good, but the drums fell in line a little too fast. It was like he was off a half-second or so. Kevin had his eyes closed during the chorus, and didn't play guitar for pieces of it as well. It was interesting. More of an emo/punk sound than TwentyOneRest I must say, but it's good. The Scene had to fix the stage monitors though, center stage and stage left, so London's Falling took a break. After one song, ya know, you need it. Hehe. Kevin was over by the snack bar getting a soda, and I had to show Danni the Jesus tatoo. It's really quite amazing if you haven't seen it before. He thinks I'm nuts because I ask about it quite a bit, but hey, someone has to. I reminded him about the Xanth show, and needing to pick up tickets and what not for that, but he told me to talk to Travis, and I did later. Wierd thing though, Danni shakes hands with people with her left hand, and when she shook Kevin's hand, he was the first person ever to notice. Interesting. Danni said that he looked like Robin Williams.

They went back on stage though.. Yay. 'Equip the Saint' is the name of the song, off of the newly released CD entitled 'Anxious Season'. You should pick it up from them if you get a chance, it's quite good. If, you want, just
e-mail me and I'll get you one from them. They're $7. Or just e-mail Travis, in the band, and ask him about them. Anyway, the song was quite nice. Kevin was origionally wearing a black shirt, but now he was in a white one and we were all kinda confused as to where his shirt went. Wierd guy. The song was all punk when it began, and they were all running around the stage like a cheap mosh-pit, it was beautiful. Kevin had this wonderful guitar solo, yay for Kevin. After that all, and the many applause, he fell into 'Back in Line'. Kevin made this announcement about how it was the first week of class for highschool kids and what not. It was kinda funny. There was this indefectible drum intro in the very beginning of the song. Kevin did this wierd thing through the song where he'd play a chord then like stomp his foot on the stage, it was rather humerous. Bottlenecking was a common theme amongst Travis and Kevin through this song though. I never really heard it before, but it was there. The final guitar solo was played into the drums, as in he was standing on the drum platform, like how Sean, from TwentyOneRest was standing on the drum platform and playing on the August 29th show at the Scene. It's a Scene thing I guess.

'Color Changing Red' followed that up.. Even though it was the second time I'd heard it that night. No problem. It was better the second time anyhow. Zac was all singing lines with Kevin, but the dork wasn't singing into the mic, so all you heard was Kevin on the harmonies. Funny stuff. Travis had this phat white guitar, fender I think, and the guitar strap was white with these giant black music notes on it. It'd make you laugh if you saw it, but it was great. Chris had on these psyco bondage pants. Funny thing, I saw this girl earlier that week in the same pants, and she had this GIANT ass, so they looked miserable on her. He looks better in them, even though he had to roll them up so he could actually play the drums. And, despite the fact that Zac kinda got lost in the harmonies, considering his lack of singing in the mic, they still sounded awesome nonetheless.

Let's see.. 'Bedroom Eyes' fell in line after that. Quite possibly, I'm feeling this is my favorite song by them. Not neccessarily because of the lyrics, but more because of the phat ending on it. Seriously. It's so beautiful. It truly presented the most feeling though when they did perform it, however. Travis was all dancing around with guitar in hand like a psycho-punk, and so was Zac on bass. The back of Kevin's pants, were over the back of his left shoe.. Danni decided everyone needed to know that. Either way, Kevin's glasses fell off at one point, and he full on stepped on them when he was prancing around on the stage. At one point, Kevin had his guitar on his knee with the neck by his head.. It was a picturesque moment.. But there was no camera. Travis was on his knees during the solo, and was almost decked in the face by Kevin's guitar. Travis made this statement at the end of the song about how he dropped out from highschool, and Justin went and yelled up to the stage "You're my hero!!!"

'Shade of Grey' came next. The title itself makes me think of Evan because of "grey".. LoL. Anyway. Oh wait, 'Die Awake' came before that. All I remember was there was this long note, and Kevin held it, this long high note. It was beautifully hott, everyone agreed. Yay for Kevin. He's got that Aaron skill. Woo. Oh, and there were safety-pins in the bottom of Kevin's pants.. Peculiar. I notice wierd things like that. Anyway, 'Shade of Grey' was after that. Kevin and Zac had this impecable harmony. Truly sweet. Nicely done. Kevin somewhere in the midst of this song, seemed to notice that I was writting down stuff the whole time and he almost had the same look on his face that Aaron did at the last show on
August 29th at the Scene. It was like he was paranoid, but I doubt it. Justin and Danni ran off to go buy CD's and stickers, and they were all happy. Kevin had all of this stuff on his guitar strap.. Operation Ivy.. Bad Religion.. Anarchy logo.. OH!! But, then he did this REALLY hott inhale in the middle of the song.. That was good times.

'The Dawning' came after that, but it was really wierd. No, not the song, the song was awesome, but I just went wierd. You see, at the beginning of the song Travis made this announcement about how everyone should go and get CD's and what not, and Justin held up his saying that he already got one, and Travis was like "Yeah, go follow the leader." It was funny. The song began though with Chris beating the bass drum for like sixteen counts or more.. It was intense. Then, there was this feedback guitar sound, but it was intentional, and suddenly it got all heavy. Hard guitar, the drums fell in, it was spectacular. "No one's around" sounded impecable, but not as great as the "How long", that was perfect. Kevin ended up having to hold on his glasses during the solo so they didn't fall off, and the amps got all wigged out and started getting scratchy like a bad record. It was sad, but it was still good.

Hmm.. 'Project America' walked in next, and it was dandy. Travis wanted everyone to know that this was the first song on
MP3.com.. Check it out. There was this wicked drum solo in the middle of the song. That was awesome.. Watch out Brant, because Chiris is walking a short line behind you. Anywhooo.. Zac and Kevin had some awesome harmonies going on again, and Travis went all nuts in the middle of the song. Wierd kid. 'Prisoner' came shortly after that, and it was probably the best song played that night beside 'Bedroom Eyes'. Starting out, there was this awesome intro, it was so poetic, the music that is.. Kevin was sitting on the drum platform, in the show and tell position playing guitar, like Weston at the last show. Trais was all up on the stage monitors, pulling an Evan from RxDrama.. Do any of you remember that show? Evan was on the stage monitors back in the day at the Epicentre when he was in RxDrama? ..Yea.. Kevin had on these blue dickies though.. Maybe the same ones he was wearing at my house on May 19.. Hmm. Either way, he ended up on the floor after this super fast part.. There's a reason guys play guitar better than girls, and it has nothing to do with mental ability in the least. It's a matter of sexual conotation.. Long story. But, there's a reason guys can play guitar better than girls, and Kevin proved it. LoL.

Erin tried to disagree with me on that one, but she didn't get it, like how most of you won't get it right now. It's ok. I don't really expect you to. It's a personal thing I noticed. Maybe if you ask me kindly, I'll tell you.. LoL. Either way, Erin bought a CD after the show, and Danni and I were thoroughly amazed that Kevin was onstage curling up his chords the right way. After being in tech for so long, you start to respect your equipment, so it's a personal pet-peeve for Danni, Justin, and myself when people don't coil chords the right way. But, Kevin did it the right way!! So, props to Kevin. He's on our list of good people right now. Yay. After all of that though, we went outside to talk to the band a little, and I told Travis about picking up tickets at Xanth, and he started giving me all of this attitude. Chill out my friend. When, Danni tells you "Hey, you guys played a good show tonight" and then you go off and are like "I know".. That's not neccessarily cool, but to each his own I suppose. We went home after that, but we had to stop by Alex's and he wasn't home, so we had to call Melissa's grandmother to get Melissa's mom's number so we could call Alex and get directions to where he was. That was good times. Yay for random shows with Ramona bands. Ramona is the best, in it's own peculiar way. :)
