BIFF BANG POW
Named after a song by 60's mod group the Creation, Biff Bang Pow were essentially an opportunity for the label founder Alan McGee to aspire to stardom himself.  Formed out of the ashes of McGee's previous band, the Laughing Apple, they unsurprisingly contributed to the early Creation singles releases with "50 Years of Fun" and "There Must Be a Better Life" in 1984.

Despite the part-time aspect of the band due to McGee's interest in other, bigger Creation concerns such as Jesus & Mary Chain and Primal Scream, they continued to release a number of albums and singles.

Displaying a fondness for both the garage based rock of the label's namesakes, classic 60's pop, and the mellower, singer songwriter inluence of Neil Young, their albums mostly matched the quality of those of other early Creation artists.  Inevitably, the later success of bands such as the Boo Radleys and Oasis were detrimental to the prospective future stability of the group, as their leader was drawn more into the business aspect of the label, and found less available time to devote to his own project. He finally disbanded the group in 1991, although several compilations were issued posthumously.

Whilst Biff Bang Pow! have never been necessarily singled out as influential, it is safe to say that virtually all of the early Creation Records label roster made a large impression on the independent scene for years to come, and they were proof that London was not the only place for exciting and inspirational music to prosper.
