DR PHIBES & THE HOUSE OF WAX EQUATIONS
Formed in the UK during the late 80's, band members Howard King Jnr. (vocals/guitars), Lee Belsham (bass) and Keith York (drums) met at South Cheshire College of Further Education, where they all chose to study music.

Taking their name from Hammer Horror films, they released their debut single 'Sugarblast' in 1990 and topped the independent charts for two weeks, and followed it with an album, 'Whirlpool', in April 1991.

Producing a rhythmic mix of psychedelia, blues and funk, they gained critical acclaim for their original style, and played both Glastonbury and the Reading Festival in 1992. Recordings for their follow-up album were held up when Belsham injured a shoulder.  Fellow band member York had driven off in the band's van, unaware that his colleague was lying on the roof.

The second album finally emerged in 1993. 'Hypnotwister' remained innovative but did not lift them beyond the cult status that their first releases had gained them.
