THE VIOLET HOUR
Not much information is currently available about this band, but I can tell you this much . . .

The Violet Hour formed at Leeds University in the UK, where the individual members were studying music. Their name (I believe) can either be traced back to 'The Wasteland' by T.S. Eliot which mentions the 'Violet Hour', or a more likely reference is the Sisters of Mercy, who dropped the same phrase into one of their singles.

The Sisters link continues with the music that the Violet Hour recorded, which was influenced by the likes of Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Cure etc, and on the single 'Falling' there is a hint of Kate Bush.  Their artwork also displayed distinctly gothic tendencies, featuring a lot of purple and Celtic patterns.

It may be tempting to write the band off as one dimensional but their releases also featured some unusual time signatures, suggesting that they were influenced by artists outside of the general realm of Gothic rock.

Violet Hour released one album and a few singles on Epic Records, but a lack of success eventually took it's toll and the band split. The guitarist was last spotted busking in Plymouth, but the current whereabouts of all of the members are unknown.
