The Rare Pilot Episode!
Take aim for laughter with "Hogan's Heroes", the sly and silly sitcom that took America by storm in the late 1960s!
The laughs take place in Stalag 13, a German prisoner of war camp run by the inept Colonel Klink (Werner Klemperer). But behind the scenes, it's really American Col. Robert Hogan (Bob Crane) who calls the shots. Using the code name Papa Bear, Hogan and his fearless team of Allied fugitives secure top-secret information for their superiors through phone taps, underground escape routes, radio contacts and a series of off-the-wall diversions.
Airing at the height of the Vietnam era, "Hogan's Heroes" was not only one of the first major TV series to depict life during wartime, but also the first to do so with such a comic, even absurdist, twist. Although the show was controversial, the American public lapped it up. And so did TV producers. "Hogan's Heroes" paved the way for such shows as the acclaimed, reality-based comedy "M.A.S.H." as well as more dramatic series like "China Beach" and others.
Lasting over six fun-filled seasons, "Hogan's Heroes" featured the talents of regulars Ivan Dixon, Richard Dawson and Robert Clary as the Hero crew as well as John Banner as the bumbling Sgt Schultz, Klink's right hand man.
