Beverly was inspired to write this song when she saw a soldier picking up a small child in Iraq and she saw the tears in his eyes and wrote this. Thank you so much Bev for letting me use these beautiful lyrics. If you would like to see more of Beverly's work click HERE | |||||||||||||||||||||
ON THE ROAD TO BHAGDAD On the road to Bhagdad, a soldier marched along, He stopped with his gun at ready, when he heard a tiny song. He crept battle ready, toward a pile of rock, and came upon a little boy, too terrified too talk, But with a shaking voice, the child began to sing, The soldier shook his head, thought he'd heard everything, The Iraqi childs voice wavered, he raised his tearfilled eyes, His bottom lip quivered, as he stared up at the skies, "Jesus loves me, this I know, cause a G.I. told me so, America will stop this war, things will be better than before. we will have Ice cream and cakes Tv, bikes and roller skates, Once the G.I's end this war." The soldier stopped and picked him up, He carried him along to the medics truck, There the doctor sadly, shook his head, The child was far too hungry He was almost dead...... Still the child sang, his little song, As the soldier carried him along, "Jesus loves me this I know, Cause a G.I told me so...." Down the road, a mile or so The little boy sang no more, The starvend child had passed away, His illness was called war. Tears slipped down the Soldiers face and he laid aside his gun. He bowed his head and said a prayer over the little one.... He buried the child, beside the road, and made a cross of wood. and carved the words across the top as best he could... "Here in this humble grave lies my little son " With a deep sigh the Soldier stood, and marched along the Road to Bhagdad singing this little song....feeling very sad, "Jesus loves me this I know Cause my boy just told me so, We will fight to stop all war Make peace better than before Kids will have ice cream and cake TV bikes and Roller skates.... things they never had before, Once we end this Friggin war" Sound off...One Two Three Four! |
