Hearing Dogs for Deaf People
Hello again! You may be wondering why I'm doing a page of Hearing Dogs, and it's because I think they are so grreat! I first saw them at a craft fair in Yorkshire with Nikki. We were eating ice cream, and Nikki spotted a dog stall so of course went to have a closer look. It was the Hearing Dogs for deaf People stand. They had a dog there with his deaf lady owner. Nikki was asking questions while I said hi!
Heres what they do and a few pics we picked up from a leaflet. More info is at
www.hearing-dogs.co.uk
Hearing Dogs for Deaf People trains carefully selected dogs to alert severly or profoundly deaf people to the everyday sounds that hearing people take for granted, such as:
Alarm clock
Doorbell
Telephone
Smoke Alarm
Baby Alarm
Cooker Timer
In Britain 8.7 million (1 in 7) of adults have a signifiant hearing loss and up to 1.22 million of these may fall within the criteria for hearing dog applicants.
