Riverbend Rally 5k Run/Walk |
Perfect weather and a course corrected for distance provided some fast times for last year's Riverbend Rally 5K. In all 118 runners and walkers finished the race. Seventeen year old Evan Neubauer of Decorah was the men's overall winner in 17:05 while Brendalyn White (former Iowa Falls Cadet and current Wartburg Knight runner)led the women with a time of 19:37.
All proceeds from this event will benefit the Hardin County Recreational Trails Committee, a volunteer organization working to see the development of recreational trails in Hardin County. The group is currently fund raising for Rock Run Creek Trail, which will begin along Rock Run Creek between the Meyer Municipal Aquatic Center and Pierce Avenue (behind Ellsworth Municipal Hospital). After the completion of Phase 1 of Rock Run Creek Trail, a cross-width, asphalt, multi-purpose trail will be in place for bicycles, walkers, joggers, and other outdoor enthusiasts to use. The Hardin County Recreational Trails Committee is working with Iowa Falls Parks and Recreation, the Iowa River Greenbelt Resource Trust, the Region 6 Planning Commission, and the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation in developing a county-wide trail system that will eventually connect the communities that dot the Iowa River Greenbelt.
