NOTICE!! All Rescue Organizations/ Administrators/Board members...please see below |
***For Rescue Organizations*** I would like to help out, by having one of your urgent needs rescues or long term fosters, currently up for adoption, featured weekly, as "Rescue of the Week". I will rotate among the various groups and I will give emergency cases priority, so that the info is up-to-date. With over 350 visitors a week here, this will, perhaps, reach some folks that aren't visiting your sites, and we can promote fostering as well. If you are interested, please email me and we can work out the details. It's my small way of helping. Lets get all our Boxers loving, forever homes. |

Chance now |
His journey.... |
These 3 pics taken at the shelter |
Now in foster care and his wound today... |
Chance was picked up by animal control in upstate SC, on Jan. 22, after finding him on the losing end of a pack fight of stray dogs. Chance had bite wounds from head to toe, but the shelter workers didn't notice one of the wounds abscessing, until 6 days after he was brought in. At that time there was necrosis and severe infection in his right hind leg, as well as, Chance coming down with a severe upper respiratory infection. After being in contact with Erin at LBR, he was started on antibiotics and the wound was cleaned up by staff. A caring volunteer from Spartanburg got Chance out of the shelter, after his legal hold was up, and transported him 1/2 way to us here at Lowcountry Boxer Rescue. When he got here, his wound had already begun to heal slowly, but he had green discharge from his nose and eyes and was running a high fever. With the advice of our trusted veterinarians, his antibiotics were increased to a dose appropriate for him, and he was dewormed for all 4 of the intestinal parasites: hookworms, roundworms, whipworms, and tapeworms. Fortunately he was given an all clear for heartworms! But, he could still show up positive in 6 months to a year if he wasn't protected before we found him. We'll keep our fingers crossed! A week after arriving here, Chance has been in his foster home for 6 days now and is dramatically improved!!! His URI is nearly gone, no more sneezing green goobers. :) His leg wound is shrinking by the day, as new fresh tissue rebuilds itself. His personality is coming out, now that he's feeling better, and he's an absolute love bug! He loves children and, inspite of his horrific ordeal with being attacked by other dogs, he is now stuck like glue, to our foster family's other Boxer. He comes when called and is learning how to go into a crate on command, with positive reinforcement methods of training. Chance will need to be neutered once his wounds have totally healed, and should be available for adoption by the first week in March. Chance's ideal home should include a family or couple, preferably without cats (we're in the process of cat testing now). We'd prefer if Chance had a nice fenced yard to play in and maybe another dog to keep him company. We will highly recommend that his new family members take him to obedience classes and stay active with him as he is a VERY smart little guy, who seems to enjoy anything fun with his person or people. Chance is around 1 to 1 1/2 years old so he's got a long life to live with someone willing to give him that second "chance". Please contact LBR for more information or for an application for Chance! |
