Traditional buildings of Jaffna are potential sources of essential information about the life and history of the community in which these were evolving for several hundreds of years. No serious studies have been undertaken on this subject yet. In the recent past due to various reasons many of these buildings had been demolished. The remaining are fast disappearing from the scene. The following pages have been prepared to create awareness on this subject and to make a case for preservation, conservation or documentation of selected buildings in Jaffna for the future generation.
