David and I were legally married at the Justice of the Peace office here in Austin on August 24, 2001. It took less than five minutes and we had only been seeing each other for three months, and only lived in the same state for about three weeks. We dressed up for each other and told none of our friends or family that we were going to do it, and to this day we can't even figure out how it actually happened. It was nice that we did it all for ourselves, and we did it with the intention of having a "real" wedding on our one year anniversary. After we had our ceremony, we went to Mr. Natural's for dinner and cake and then went out to see Legally Blonde. |

A week and a half later we found out we were pregnant. We were still planning on having on having that "real" wedding with family and friends but somehow we had bigger fish to fry. Eventually more and more of our friends and family found out that we were already legally married, although we tried to keep it a secret for a while. Our anniversary rolled around and we had a three month old daughter but never got around to planning a wedding. It wasn't until last December when my original wedding ring found it's way to the bottom of Barton Springs that we finally got to planning an official cermony before our friends. We did everything ourselves and had our Renewal of Vows ceremony at some dear friends' house; it was amazing (no pictures scanned yet). I am so grateful for all of our friends here in Austin. I'm glad that we did it the way that we did, and, despite the odds of a rushed-into wedding, I am still very much in love with my husband and daughter. |
