Recent discoveries!!

The summer of 2002 has come and gone, but not before I logged many miles scouring the old U.S. highways throughout the Midwest. Old theatres are still relatively plentiful, although many are no longer in use. With the exception of old motels, vintage porcelain and neon signage is vanishing quickly. Defunct service stations also abound, but the ravages of time are claiming many of the earlier, more modest wooden stations. Take that roadtrip you've been thinking about, the sooner the better: otherwise, you may miss something special... like this smattering of signage and roadside curiosities from my summer travels.
