Test

Anna meets Robert at his office at headquarters. She knocks and he grumbles.

Robert: Who is it? (She lets herself in)

Anna: That's not exactly "come in". But it's close enough.

Robert: Look, I'm pretty busy. (He sees her wedding ring on her chain) I see you've had that repaired. I didn't think you'd go to the trouble.

Anna: Well I'm funny that way.

Robert: (sympathetically) Anna.

Anna: I couldn't throw it away Robert.

Robert: It might have been simpler if you had.

Anna: Well maybe one day I will. (She lifts the chain and puts it inside her blouse). But that's not why I am here.

Robert: What brings you by?

Anna: I want to find out what "Plan B" is for getting back into Sean's penthouse. That is, if you still think the treasure's there.

Robert: You know I do.

Anna: Have you got a new approach?

Robert: Yes, as a matter of fact, I'm taking some of Sean's advice.

Anna: What's that?

Robert: To get a search warrant. I'm waiting for it now.

Anna: He can't really throw you out with one of those, now can he?

Robert: He best not try. One way or another, I'm gonna search that penthouse. He better hope and pray that I find what I'm looking for.

Anna: You gonna go straight to Sean's penthouse?

Robert: Yes. Meanwhile, I'm working out my plan for the search of the waterfront warehouse.

Anna: You still think that the treasure's there, do you?

Robert: What isn't in Donely's penthouse. The bulk of that treasure will be pretty handy to that warehouse. He'll have certain pieces stashed away privately but it's not all gonna fit in that safe.

Anna: I've got a question. Is the waterfront your only option?

Robert: I'm counting on it. If not, I may never find the treasure.

Anna: And another question is, how do you intend to cover the whole area?

Robert: One place at at time. Ruby, Bobbie and Jake have given me permission to search their places.

Anna: Well, what's to prevent Sean from shipping out with the treasure before you get there?

Robert (annoyed) What is this? The third degree?

Anna: Oh. I'm sorry. I was just keeping you on your toes.

Robert: You always did.

Anna: Old habits die hard, I suppose.

Robert: You're trying to find out whether I've slipped up, whether old Robert's covered the bases.

Anna: Oh come on. I want you to succeed in this. Now answer my question.

Robert: Maybe you should repeat the question.

Anna: With pleasure. What is to prevent Sean...

Robert: From sneaking out of his place with the treasure before I get inside?

Anna (smile) Perfect recall.

Robert: I'll try to give you a perfect answer. I have a man stationed outside. If Donely makes a move with the treasure, he'll be there to help.

Anna: Okay. You do seem to have it all covered.

Robert (teases) Ye of little faith. I've learned from bitter experience if you tend to go up against Donely, you better be prepared. Besides, I feel the showdown's gonna be tonight.

Anna: It's dangerous Robert.

Robert: Only if Sean decides to resist and for both our sakes, I hope he doesn't.

Anna: There's still a trace of friendship left isn't there?

Robert: Hard to believe as that may be.

Anna: No, it's not hard to believe. You two were very close.

Robert: Another time, another place.

Anna: Those things are both with you now. (She pauses in thought) Do you intend to take a backup too when you go tonight?

Robert: I can't afford to. I've gotta keep this as secret as possible.

Anna: Well I can't let you go into the penthouse alone. We are both in this. I would like to join you.

Robert: This is something I've gotta do myself.

Anna: Oh, you don't trust your old partner?

Robert: It's not that.

Anna: I was good enough for you in the WSB.

Robert (smiles) You were the best.

Anna: Well, I haven't lost so much as a step. Now please Robert. Let me come with you tonight.

Robert (answering his ringing phone) Scorpio. Yeah, I'll be right there. (He hangs up) The search warrant is ready. I'm gonna go pick it up. You can wait here. I shan't be long.

Anna: Okay. (She waits and paces until he comes back with an answer for her)

The scene fades out, then returns later. Anna is pacing Robert's office waiting for him to come back with the search warrant. She hums "Waltzing Matilda" to herself and he walks in quietly, catching her off guard till she sees him.

Anna: (noticeably uncomfortable) Uh, did you get the search warrant? (Robert shows it to her and they accidentally touch hands. She tries to conceal her discomfort) Well, it all seems to be in order.

Robert: It is.

Anna: That is, everything except your backup team.

Robert (annoyed at her stubborness) Anna.

Anna: Wait Robert. I can take care of myself. I'm not a porcelain doll! I may be able to take care of you if things get a bit sticky.

Robert: They probably will and that's one of the reasons I don't want you to be part of this.

Anna: Oh Robert! I've been there before!! You of all people should know how I react under pressure. If nothing happens tonight between you and Sean, I will have just come along for the ride. But if it gets out of hand possibly, I could be able to help. Now come on! What have you got to lose? I think you need me. (She gives him a smug smile)

Robert: (hesitates a moment and then gives in) Alright.

Anna: (excited) I can come with you then?

Robert: Yes. The treasure's gotta be found. Maybe you can do something. Because if we don't, times running out for all three of us.

Anna: Don't worry. We'll find it.

Robert: We better. And when we do, it goes back to Mexico. Maybe then this nightmare will be over and we can get on with our lives. But the whole bloody thing depends on finding that Aztc treasure.

Anna: Let's go.
