I have been a collector of Zorro memorabilia for the past 6 years. I like the toys but the thing that fascinates me the most are the Zorro Paper Collectibles. "Zorro Paper Collectible" as I call them are actually documents that trace the Zorro/Guy Williams legacy. Please let me give you a brief example. Filming for the second season of Zorro wrapped on Febrary l959. In an article from the Chicago Daily Tribune TV Week shows Guy in his Diego outfit with his left hand under his chin, title "The Return of Zorro" states, "In fact, our reports before the half hour series terminated in l959 showed 53 percent of our audience was grown-ups to 47 percent kids. The new scripts have more maturity than the earlier ones." With 40% audience share everyone went on vacation and were scheduled to film the 3rd season of Zorro in July l959. Meanwhile ABC and the sponsors wanted out of Zorro because it was costing to much to produce. This and other reasons made Walt Disney cancel the show. At this time Guy was making public appearances all over the country. What briefly follows: February l959 - Second seaso of Zorro wrapped-up filming. June l7, l959 - Kaysville, Utah, Terrance Garden at Lagoon Amusement Park July l959 - Returned to film 3rd season - which never happened Sept. l959 - Zorro goes off the air Nov. l959 - Disneyland "Zorro Day" appearance with Britt Lomond, Henry Calvin and Gene Sheldon New Years Day l960 - Tournament of Roses Parade - New Year's Day God Bless, Wendell |
